MLB 1996 Quickstart
MLB 1996
What is it? It's a historical roster mod, originally created with a modded db in OOTP 23 and brought forward to OOTP 26, with active players deleted and re-imported to take advantage of the numerous additions to the database since then. Instead of created coaches, it has almost a full slate of real coaches, many of whom have the official numerical ratings from modern official quickstarts. I haven't messed with many of the strategy sliders yet with the exception of a few of the more notable managers who have strategy settings in modern quickstarts, so most of them may as well be fictional coaches. But hey, at least it looks nice. Most of the contracts are close to being right, but I can't vouch for 100% accuracy. Real 1996 draft picks who signed and played that year are now inactive until early June to keep them out of the way for a few months. I do have some spreadsheets for the UDFAs, but that'll just have to wait for now. The retired numbers section is a modified version of the official quickstart file. I've taken into account the fact that some of the players are currently active, others aren't in the HoF yet, and many of them are still currently alive. It's 1996, after all. If there's a decent amount of interest in this, a future version would include player histories for all players who appeared in a major league game in real life in 1996, of which I have more than half downloaded so far. If there's a ton of interest, I'll try to add more. I'm not sure how many people are clamoring for playable indy leagues from back then, but there's a semi-functional Northern League here instead of 200+ free agents in the transaction area. If you choose to dl this, remember to check your settings and all that before advancing with the sim. You also may have to create some fictional trainers because probably more than half the teams don't currently have one because I couldn't find info. Also nota bene that I have AI transactions disabled, so at some point after opening day, you're going to need to go into the settings and allow them for both MLB and (and before May 31 for NORL). Whether you run a re-scout before the game is up to you, and be sure to read the readme file included within the quickstart folder. And remember to unzip the file before trying to use it. Other than all that, enjoy! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ype...ew?usp=sharing |

First Thanks for Creating this!
I’m interested in the process to delete and reimport players, is that done player by player, or is there a way to delete and reimport entire teams at once? Thanks |

Previous (and currently active for the season in question) award winners are deleted and re-imported one by one in order for them to have the same numerical player ID so the award pages look like they're supposed to. It needs to be done that way because, as far as I can tell, there's no way to repopulate the aforementioned pages. And you may also have to purge the database before getting to that point, but if it works like it should, there normally aren't issues, but you definitely want a copy of your league before doing so just in case. After that, if you have an importable roster file ready to go, you can remove the ones already re-imported and do a mass import of everyone else without any problems. You have to take a few minutes before that, though, so you can get the team ID number and copy/paste it where it needs to go. After that's done, if you're a stickler for perfection, you could then export the database files to CSV and use the sort function and a basic formula to see if there are any duplicates after reimporting that need to be deleted. Sometimes that happens, usually with players whose final MLB game was a few years earlier but are still at it in AAA or something. |
