Anyone Else?

Anyone else sticking with 25? I will eventually buy 26, probably around the September or October, but for now my intentions are to just keep playing 25.

I'm sticking with 25, but then I upgraded to that from 13 so I might not be typical.

Wow, had you been playing 13 all along, or did you take a long break from the game?

I got every early release since OOTP X, but not 26.

There are many updates I would like to see for historical play, which do not appear to be coming. Some obvious issues have remained for years, like ai playing the infield in with bases loaded and a 3 run lead, or never throwing to 2nd to cut off the runner when a runner scores regardless of the score. Or teams refusing to get a 2nd catcher or 4th reliever when they are short on their roster.

I'll keep an eye on the forum to see if they make any updates that I'd like, but until then I'll stick with 25.

I was having hell with teams not carrying enough catchers earlier in 25, but knock on wood, as of late teams have been carrying at 2 on their regular roster and at least 1 or more on their reserve roster.

I played 13 all along. I'd probably still be playing 13 if the whole Esellerate thing hadn't come up. It did what I wanted it to do. I play all fictional, so updated rosters weren't of interest to me.

I love all improvements OOTP has made to historical play over the years. That being said, OOTP16 will always be among my favorite versions. It's when I truly fell in love with random debut.

Interesting. That's longer than the time I went with an old version. I played 11 (the last hard copy, I bought the DVD on ebay about 2017) until I got a new computer and then bought 21.

Why do people use different players, different lineups, different strategy, development, talent change randomness, and the development lab, but judge the game on whether it produces historical statistics?

I typically buy in alternate years. On that schedule this would be a year not to buy. I was considering buying 26 so I could contribute better to the Wiki but now probably won't.

25 for me. I have supported Markus and the Gang for many years, but I don't play enough, nor do I ever use the updated rosters or Perfect Team, to warrant getting 26 at this time.

My Ontario-only, purely fictional, custom-player-infused 8-team league is good enough for me.

No way would I trust a long-term save until at least a few patches have been released. I'll buy it then. The last few releases have just been too buggy.

I was pretty faithful for many years getting each new version, but over the last 8-10 years I tend to skip a year (or more) and have been happy. If anything, it is fun to have gone a few years without the advancements and then when making the jump there is a lot of "new" stuff to explore/enjoy. I just moved to v25 this past December, so I am good for a while.

I had an issue occur with my ootpb 24, instead of trying to fix it I decided to move up and get 25 @ $25 and I was impatient to wait for 26 (this was 2 months ago). I am interested in the World Baseball Classic with qualifiers though in the new version and curious to see if it is expandable.

I'm determined to wait this year, but my will power isn't always the best. Thing is, looking back a the last several versions, it's usually at least September or later when I'm finally able to truly enjoy the game. Just seems to make more sense to wait. I'm really enjoying 25 right now.

I understand this all too well! Does anything from 26 appeal to you or is it just the want of the newest product? I like the idea of qualifiers but I think MB is pretty limited on that. I remember an older fifa soccer game that had the entire qualifier process and that really drew me in to the sport.

I play historical and historical random debut. Matt said earlier in the OOTP announcement thread that for folks that use a combo of recalc and the OOTP development engine, players will now recalc till they're out of recalc years. At that point recalc will cease and the player will go 100% development. This could be a huge improvement.

I'm also glad they added the option to use the Negro League players from the Integreated Mod in random leagues and straight up historical leagues.

You are the man to ask then! I just literally tried my first straight up historical league in 1871 but having real rookies imported as free agents. It isn't working. Teams don't have enough pitchers the next year.

My goal was to create a fictional league to run alongside the actual MLB. Any ideas?

Turn off retire according to history and miss seasons according to history and go no injuries until you get much further in time. The 19th c. needs to contract some of the teams that sputtered out and get more real players onto rosters with less teams. Long standing issue with the 19th c. unless you micromanage it. Alternatively, go to commish mode, go to Free Agents, far right, create 300 random fictional scrubs to fill the gaps. I make them from Iceland or somewherre so I know who is fictional.
