Variant Card Details

What is a Variant?
A Variant is an upgradable card that uses relationships between the card and player to boost its performance and value. Any historical base card can be pulled as a Variant.

How do I upgrade my Variant?
This feature enables you to merge cards that share a link with a chosen Variant Card, rewarding you with more Relation Points the closer the cards are related to each other. These points can be used to unlock incremental boost levels for the Variant Card, enhancing its attributes and, consequently, its performance in the game. The improvements can reach up to a maximum of five (5) boost levels, with each offering a significant increase to the card’s ratings. The overall (OVR) rating of the card will NOT change.
You can use the cards in a boost attempt at any time, filling the boost bar at your pace. You can also collect the cards and fill the bar at one time. The choice is up to you. Once the boost meter reaches 100%, you can boost the card to the next level. If your total Relations Points exceed the target number then it can carry over if it’s at 1,000 points or below.

Variant Odds
Once a card is pulled, if eligible, the default odds for it to be a Variant Card is determined by the card value tier as follows:
Iron, Bronze: 1:200
Silver: 1:100
Gold, Diamond, Perfect: 1:50

What are the points to boost my Variant?

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Total
Iron 1,000 1,500 2,000 2,500 3,000 10,000
Bronze 1,600 2,100 2,600 3,100 3,600 13,000
Silver 2,400 2,900 3,400 3,900 4,400 17,000
Gold 3,400 3,900 4,400 4,900 5,400 22,000
Diamond 4,600 5,100 5,600 6,100 6,600 28,000
Perfect 6,000 6,500 7,000 7,500 8,000 35,000

Can I Quicksell my Variant?
Variants can be quicksold with the following PP totals going into your account:
Iron – 100 PP
Bronze – 250 PP
Silver – 500 PP
Gold – 2500 PP
Diamond – 10,000 PP
Perfect – 50,000 PP

Can I sell my Variant?
Variants can be sold. However, the marketplace for Variants will be an Auction House and not a Card Shop. The Auction House mechanic was used for all cards in Perfect Team from 19 to 22. This allowed each card to be sold individually. We will be using this method for all Variants, but there are two vital changes to the system.
  1. All Variants can be sold at the current boosted level and the player who purchases it will get it at that level. For example, a Level 3 Mookie Wilson Variant can be purchased at Level 3.
  2. All Variants will be up for auction for 48 hours, allowing more players to bid on the card.

Please note that Variants will not have chemistry between them simply because they’re Variants. They must have connections in other areas to gain chemistry boosts.

Also, please be advised that removing a Base Card of a player on your active roster in order to replace it with a Variant of that same player will result in both cards needing the 14-day cool down period.

Hi, if I could ask, I know the ratings all improve by about 5-10 but how much does it actually impact the player performance? (This is someone who had minimal contact with Combinators last year)

Variant Card Buying

How do you know if you won the action for a card. It's 5pm central time USA, but I don't know if I won or lost bid. And If I lost do I lose the money I placed on the bid?
Again confused as all get up

Bunktown Ballers

I can't find info on this subject

Well based on last year it was pretty good jump, but of couse they couldn't compete much in the upper levels when the whales start buying the 104s'-105's cards. And a 100 card now won;t be worth much after a month or so

Even the old auction house had a buy now option. I am sure you have your reasons, but I don't enjoy having this feature back, especially with no buy now options. Maybe more options like 2 hours to 48 hours auctions as well? 48 hours seems like an eternity for a computer game.

The reason as to why Variant auctions are for 48 hours (and will be for the foreseeable future, we do not have any plans of implementing shorter auction times) is to give people a fair shot at getting them when they do go on the market and at fair market values based on the bids that are entered in. We also wanted to try to reduce and/or eliminate funneling of Variant cards by bad actors on the market as well. Hence why you see 48-hour auctions for Variants.

It seems like the Vairant auctions are ending but the transaction is not taking place. IE, I sold 2 so far but they still show in my auctions and I did not receive any PP from them.

Have you closed the game completely and reopened it?

Can you take a peak at your transaction history/log and report what it says there? (does it show the auction ended with a pp amount credit? +)

If they are there, try clicking on the "reload card list from server" button in the card shop and let me know what happens? (does it update the pp balance?)

That worked as far as getting the PP. The auctions are still showing. Are they supposed to after they complete?

Is it possible to sort the auctions by auction ending bid time? that would be a handy way to actually find variants that you may be looking for. Or find out what may be available immediately.

That is something the team is working on, and in fact is in the public beta patch right now.

Upgrade and merge

How exactly do you upgade and merge a variant card. I have one but cannot find an option to do either of these things.

Don't understand the purpose

What is the purpose of a variant card? I have one and tied it to another card but can't put the variant card in my line up. Every time I try to add it, I get a message that it cannot be used.

If I can't use a variant card, what's the purpose of tying it to another card?

Very confusing option.

1. It's for the high spending players.
2. Helps lower levels who pull and sell the cards for PP.
3. Can make a difference in lower-level tournaments.

Does not explain why I can put one in my lineup.

I guess I'm not understanding the issue here - I'm not quite sure what you mean by "tied to another card"; do you mean you used it to boost another card or you used another card to boost it? The only reason I can think of why the game wouldn't let you put it on the roster is if you had the regular version of that card or a card that shares the same name as him on your roster already.

Also, Variant cards are not just for "high-spending players." They're for everybody to use how they see fit, and a way to have a boostable version of a player card and diversify their roster.
