Are total_modifiers.txt realistic?
Was thinking about setting up a fictional universe in 1871 based on the statistics of the time period and progress from year to year with new league totals (though perhaps smoothed). Was wanting to use the fixed modifiers from the total_modifiers.txt rather than autocalc to give the league natural variability, but looking at the data in the file, it looks like nonsense.
For instance, via AutoCalc in 1871 (with 1871 totals loaded), I get a SO modifier around .500-.600, but the SO modifier in this file for that year is .092. Looking at the editor for a high strike out guy with that modifier shows that he would strike out far less than what an average 1871 player should with that setting.
Likewise, SO for 1878-1880 were 2.94, 2.87 and 2.93 per game. But this file shows modifiers of 2.025, 1.483 and 1.548.
What am I missing here?
