Arena Graphic suggestion
Hi Jeff and Adam, I'm not sure where to post this (since I don't see a suggestion forum), so I will just ask my question here. Feel free to move this if it is not in the appropriate place.
I've thought about this for a while now. For each arena, we have 4 ice sheets that are 2880x1344. File sizes are between 1 to 5 mb, which means a full arena mod may take up as much as 20 mb of space. That number becomes 640 mb for a 32-team NHL. My own custom game also includes AHL, CHL, some international leagues. If I want to have authentic rinks for all of them, then I'm looking at more than 2GB in my graphics folder, LOL. That's a lot for 2D graphics.
Would you consider making adjustments to how this is handled for future iterations of the game? For example, the 4 levels of degrading ice could be a layer on top of a base rink surface and will be used across the board. This way each arena only needs 1 ice sheet and that will save a lot of storage for people who play with multiple leagues.
The game will have to switch the degrading ice layer after 5 minutes of game play so this involves design and programming changes. Just food for thought as the game continues to evolve.
