NHL 1981-1982 Division Realignments Not Happening?

I am playing my first historic game. In the 1981-1982 NHL season there was a division realignment that took place.
When I sim to July 1, 1981 the historic league notes don't say anything about it and when I sim ahead to July 2, I don't see the realignment happen either.

Should I expect this to come before the regular season? If I make the changes manually, should I expect any side effects down the road like future realignments not working correctly, expansion teams not being placed in the right division, etc?

I get the correct divisions in 81-82 in a test game started in 1980. Did you turn historical editing on? That will disable divisional realignments (since there's no way for us to predict what you've done with the teams after that.) You'd need to edit them manually on July 1 in that case.

Thanks, that's good to know. I do have historical editing on, though I also have everything checked to be as normal. If there's no way to predict what would happen, what division would newly created teams be put into as they join the league?

If there are divisions, it'll try to split the new teams between them.
