OOTP26 Road to Release

With OOTP26 coming out on March 14 (Pi Day!), we have some streams and videos coming out over the next month highlighting what's coming up as part of our annual Road To Release series!

Here's a look at what's to come, with more to be announced soon! It all starts tonight on our YouTube channel, when Dr. Dynastic talks with developer Will Beh about the Player Development Lab 2.0 and what you can expect with the updated feature! You can watch that video at 8pm ET here: https://youtu.be/iZSenj21bNY?feature=shared

On Thursday, February 20, we will have a deep dive into the new MLB Draft and Scouting features, and on Thursday, February 27, we will have our Big Picture stream, where we'll talk more about what to expect from OOTP for its 26th edition!

OOTP26 is going to be exciting, and we hope you'll join us on the Road To Release!

Hope there is more improvement to the 3D game screen other than the scoreboard display when playing games, e.g. 1st&3rd base coaches, umpires, ability to choose batting helmets, catchers gear for older seasons, ability to modify the short PbP & voice, etc.

What did y'all think of the first Road to Release video? Kind of a decent overview of what the revamped Dev Lab looks like!

So, how does the player development lab impact historical games that use historical data for players?

I only play historical seasons, and I have tested this, and since the lab results (medium and high difficulty) end in March of each year it means that during that year you can have an increase or decrease in ratings, but if at the end of the year you have recalc on from statistics, any progress or regression by the lab have been discarded, in short the lab changes would only be useful and visible during the calendar year.

if you only use the OOTP development engine (recalc off) then the lab results are exactly the same as modern season games.

By "each year" do you mean the current calendar year or the year the game is playing for, e.g. 1948?

for example you are with recalc on, therefore every time the season ends the ratings will change based on the statistics of the following season, therefore if during the season a player improved +10 power (after the lab, that is, in February or March of each year) and the following year that player became a player without power, even if you have advanced with the lab, after the recalc you would lose the progress achieved with the lab since it is adjusted to the statistics of the following year.

Thanks for the clarification.

We are here to help. Believe me, it took me years to understand recalc and development in historical seasons, and I don't use it currently (I only use the development engine, I like players not to act like they did in their careers and to have different results), in practice it's like starting a modern game in the year 49 for example. Of course, with some exceptions in the way players are created and imported each year.

I tried to adjust the setting for development for players in a game I have mid season and it won't let me adjust except down (-).

With the draft updates do we finally have the option for hard capped draft slot bonus pools? Watching the rich teams offer 3 and 4 times their total draft bonus Pool on a single player is ridiculous. I don't even know why the old system had impossible sign players because if s team had money they could offer any ridiculous amount

I'm hopeful, it's been the most glaring issue with the game for years.

I wish you would take each part of the game that has been worked on and do an overview on how it is improved in OOTP26, but give specific details on how it has been improved..

Do the most important areas first and foremost, whatever those areas are.

But really show how each area has been improved... just generic "it's gonna be better and improved" is not good enough.

My favorite area of the game that I would like to know how it has been improved is 3D animation. What new plays will be featured in OOTP26.
Give a tutorial on how to set the camera views so they will function smoother. Ask the OOTP 3D animation specialist to show which camera views he uses in the game to get the best results.

News Stories and Game Recaps need a lot of work. You have entirely too few variations. They repeat far too often. I'll be glad to help the Beta Team improve them. Years ago I greatly expanded the News Stories on the Beta Team. For example, I increased shutout stories from 5 to 125. I also expanded all of the News Stories categories as well.

My other favorite area is one that is grossly neglected and hasn't been updated for years. That would be News Stories. I wish you would create a newspaper that would cover pennant races and evaluate teams during the season, give a preview of the season listing the pluses and minuses of each team and give previews of the playoff teams.Stories that would recap the regular season and preview the playoffs.

Work is really needed on the Game Recaps. They could be much improved. Since they came in years ago, there has been very little improvement. They still get the Player of the Game wrong half the time after all these years.

Will we ever be able to build our stadiums?
Or at least easily adapt the default stadiums.

I wish the game would include about 30 minor league stadiums of various configurations and styles. They could be real or fictional. Make them be 10,000 capacity or less with rural backgrounds or town backgrounds beyond the outfield fences. Bleachers that seat 20,000 and block the view of the towns should not be used. Create more generic signs on the outfield walls. Make them fictional to avoid any licensing problems. Don't include the OOTP sign. We already know the name of the game and have it. It is not very likely someone will see the sign while I am playing the game and buy it.

I unfortunately don't handle how the Road to Release videos are done, so I don't have much say in it, but I kinda agree with you on this aspect. But, that's just me personally as someone who likes to demonstrate things hands-on to show people how it works before release occurs. I'm sure the dev team has very good reasons why we're not getting the hands-on footage before release, as they're working hard on getting the game right and ready for release.

I will say that kind of a hands-on deep dive into new/re-worked features is something I'm looking to do once the Perfect Team portion of Road to Release gets going.

Not much there for the game players. I thought there might be some preview of the 3D game screen and action.
