Is this the end of OOTP?

With Markus leaving and seemingly no updates, promotions or responses regarding the next game, is this the end of this game?

As much as I hate to say it, it feels like Perfect Team was the beginning of the end for OOTP. I’m sure the game made more $ in a short amount of time with PT, but it seemed like the focus on the general game was gone and all focus was on PT.

I hope I’m wrong and I hope if the game does continue, the base game gets a lot more attention because I love OOTP.

They released a patch just a few weeks ago. What's wrong with you?

In this world nothing can be said to be certain except death, taxes, and the multiple, annual "Is this the last OOTP edition?" threads...

Hope this makes you feel better, ... from the man himself:

And yet, what MGSB says in the opening post resonates with me. I have had the same thoughts though I wouldn't say that the end of OOTPB is nigh.

However, I do speculate whether OOTPB has peaked.

I do not think OOTP is anywhere near its peak with all due respect. Just speculation here but I imagine that as AI voice tech becomes more accessible and robust, OOTP will be the game to pick up where Baseball for Windows left off. Despite the glitches, BBW has the best announcer by far. OOTP really strikes me as the game to exceed that classic.

I am also betting that OOTP will implement technology to incorporate historical player movement such as Stargell's windmill crank, Mel Ott's weird batting stance, Gibson's follow through on the mound, etc., etc.

OOTP has been and continues to be a game of evolution and revolution. I remember having been absolutely gobsmacked when I first tried OOTP 1999 and then being consistently blown away with each succeeding edition. I believe wholeheartedly that in the coming years we will once again see astounding things in this game.

I should note that I regularly play over a dozen digital baseball sims. Each has its strengths and I love them all, but, for me, OOTP is king.

Can you list all the digital baseball games you play?

This game needs serious righty lefty stats and internet league play with other community members. As a real fan that played Diamond mind for years this is non negotiable.

I never played PT, and never noticed it impact any other part of the game.

A bunch of stuff has been added in the last few years, too.

The thing to worry about is if they ever sell it to a third-party.

It was sold to a third party, though.

Rather than speculate, I can tell you that a solid product with outstanding support has improved significantly, if incrementally, in the five years I've been aboard. IMHO each new edition is worth purchasing, not just for the improvements (and the new seasons), but for the attention to detail in patches that further refines the product. Like many, I have played numerous other games, from cards/dice to computer versions to arcade games. OOTP is the best I have found. Sure, there have been corporate changes and personnel changes, but there still seem to be resources invested in the quality of the game, and a remarkable openness to suggestions from the community. And support. Did I mention support? Done.
