Issues with new NVIDIA driver (Jan 30 install)

I installed the Jan 30 updated driver yesterday: NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver vs. 572.16-driver update from 1/30/25. OOTP25 (Steam version, running on Win 10 and a desktop PC, latest drivers, etc) crashes to desktop whenever I step into a game to play on the field.
ROlling back to an earlier driver is too difficult and time-consuming for this old guy, I'm afraid. I DID try playing several other grfx-intensive games, and they all run fine with the newest driver. It's a combo of the new NVIDIA driver and OOTP 25.
I don't remember the last time my OOTP crashed for ANY reason. A couple of years, at least.

FWIW if you do a google you will se there are lots of apps having issues with this new driver. It's not just OOTP.

YEs I saw many 572.16 NV issues with games. Many complain about Microsoft FLight SIm 2020, which I run often...and which works just fine for me with the newest driver. Personally, I have an awful lot of high-grfx games on my PC and AFAIK (I've played quite a few since the new driver), the ONLY game which gives me issues is OOTP25.
ANyway, I hope NVidia puts out another driver, because rolling back has been an issue for me.

Short of players rolling back the NV driver, is there anything OOTP25's teams can do to make this playable with the 572.16 driver?

I'm going to guess since nvidia did such a horrible job with this driver it is only going to be nvidia that can fix it.

Glad I didn't update. If I had I would be rolling back and waiting on nvidia's next move.

It seems not, from our testing so far

Well that's not good news. Very dissapointed. I haven't had to roll back an NV driver in years, and every single one of my grfx-intensive and non-grfx-intensive games seems to work with the 572.16 driver...except for OOTP25. It's literally the ONLY game that doesn't work with the new NV driver. For me, anyway.
I guess I can only hope NV comes out with a new driver that works with OOTP25.
Or I can hold out for OOTP26 and hope IT works with whatever driver NV has when OOTP26 comes out.

It's OpenGL related, potentially your other games are not using OpenGL.

Since it's only happening with 572.16+ Nvidia definitely broke something in their driver unintentionally. There is no mentioning of any OpenGL related changes in the changelog.

We already tested 572.24 which is still crashing.

It is related to the display of the skybox. Unfortunately there is no option to disable those. But you can try this:
- go to the main menu
- press "settings"
- select tab "troubleshooting"
- click on the button "open folder containing customizable data"
- an explorer window should open
- open folder "ballparks", then "models", then "misc"
- rename the folder "sky_boxes" to something else

---This worked PERFECTLY for me...easy fix and I don't have to roll back my driver, since all of my other games are working. If you don't mind, I'm going to post this on the Steam OOTP25 discussion forum. Thank you so much!

Nvidia crash is fixed!

I am happy to a inform you guys that I was able to fix the nvidia related crash in ootp25.
So applying the workaround from Chris isn't necessary anymore as long as ootp25 got updated to the newest version that will get released soon.
