Nvidia Jan-w5 driver reported as crashing game by user on Steam forum

User reporting on Steam that the latest nvidia driver of Jan 25 is causing a crash to desk top. Two users have confirmed in the linked Steam thread.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/23846...3679434885584/

My game is loading fine, pc-Steam, and I'm not going to try updating my nvidia driver to test this out. But figured I'd post this here and see if anyone here is experiencing their game crashing with the recent update. Also give Matt and the team a heads up in case the new drive is an issue.

Yeah, there is a possible crash related to skyboxes in both (Gaming and Studio) Nvidia drivers 572.16. We will investigate this further.

I can confirm this issue. I installed yesterday the "NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver" vs. 572.16, dated 1/30/25. My OOTP25 (Steam version, running on Win 10 and a desktop PC, latest drivers, etc) crashes to desktop whenever I step into a game to play on the field. The menus are OK, but playing a game in ANY stadium...game-provided or from the workshop...causes a CTD.
I tried several other grfx-intensive games, and they all run fine with the newest driver. It's a combo of the new NVIDIA driver and OOTP 25.

I hope that something can be worked on so I don't have to roll back my NV driver to play OOTP 25. Still can't play the game in any stadium, game-provided or workshop-downloaded stadia. They ALl crash my OOTP to desktop once I enter a game.

For visibilty:

Since it's only happening with 572.16+ Nvidia definitely broke something in their driver unintentionally. There is no mentioning of any OpenGL related changes in the changelog.

We already tested 572.24 which is still crashing.

It is related to the display of the skybox. Unfortunately there is no option to disable those. But you can try this:
- go to the main menu
- press "settings"
- select tab "troubleshooting"
- click on the button "open folder containing customizable data"
- an explorer window should open
- open folder "ballparks", then "models", then "misc"
- rename the folder "sky_boxes" to something else
