Rivalry Mechanics

Hello there! How are you today? Good game, good game. I play a lot.

I have a question about team rivals mechanics : It boost the performance of the team who play against their rival, right?

I'm in the 1929-1930 season. I'm, by far, the best team of the league.
My rival, the New York Americans, are the only other good team this year. I have a rivalry of 1 against them and they have a rivalry of 1 against me.

The games between our teams are goods, very close call.

The Ottawa Senators have a middle team this season. They play for .500, they're getting old. I don't have a rivalry against them but they have a rivalry of 2 against me. They crush me every game we play. Their goalie play for .950 and mine play like a potatoe. They even outshoot me, something who never happen against any other teams.

It is pure luck or it's something about the rivlary system? Am I condemned to lose nearly every games against the Sens?

Thank you!

EDIT UPDATE : Maybe it was pure luck, after all. I've just sweep them in the playoff.
But still, I'm curious to know more about the rivalry system. How it affect the teams and players.
