Problem with continuing 1995 season past trade deadline

I am playing the 1995 season via the Challenge Mode with the Seattle Mariners as a manager and letting the computer be the general manager. Everything was fine until I got to July 31st, and when I tried to continue, I get the following error:

"There was an error in starting the trading deadline day."

There was a thread on Reddit where someone suggested to turn off advanced trading, continue, and then turn it back on again. As to whether that worked or not, the OP on Reddit never responded back & the thread is about 2 months old.

I looked in the game settings everywhere, but I'm not exactly sure where this "advanced trading" is located. Can someone point out where it is? I never messed around with trading before (which is why I let the computer be the general manager). I should also mention, I never updated the game to the latest patch (I tend to procrastinate about these things) and when I tried clicking every link available for PC to download it on the corresponding thread on this site, I get a 404 error. I looked on the main OOTP website and all I found was a link to download the game, but I don't know if this is the patched or unpatched version. Is there another place where I can download the latest patch or do I even need to update?

It will download an .exe file that looks just like the original game installation itself because it essentially is. Anyway, double-click and install it as if it were your initial purchase. It won't erase your save.

Things having to do with Trading are on the League Settings>Rules tab, upper right but the fact you are in challenge mode worries me that you won't be able to edit anything, so here's hoping the patch helps.

Actually, I was able to continue by turning on trades in the League Rules. I didn't even have to update the game, but I will soon.Game states it's now August 1st during the '95 season.
