Drafted same player twice

Hello,

The 25 version will probably not be updated but just for your knowledge I report an small issue i having in year two of my save.
In the 2025 draft (have not done anything with settings except negotiating with all drafted players) i’ve picked the same player in both the second and third round. I also have to negotiate with that player twice. I don’t know what will happened if i just negotiate with one of the names.
In the same draft i have removed 2 players that appeared twice (same name, age, etc etc).

Thanks for a great game!

Can you open the player editor and see if he (both of them!) have a Historical Minors ID? If neither do, are their skills the same, that is are they literally the same player or players with the same name (post the name too and I'll see if he is an actual draft prospect out there in the world) but different skills?

Thank you for responding!

Neither of them have an historical minors ID. But 'both' have the same player ID. And yes, exactly the same attributes in the editor. It's one player, not two I would say. In the negotiations screen it appears like I drafted both of them in round 3 but in the player history screen the real scenario appear. I drafted someone else in round two but that player became this player we talk about in the second, presumably after I picked the third round.

Does it make sense? For me it do not. Will continue the draft och sign players today. Let's see what happens.

Is this him?

https://www.perfectgame.org/players/...aspx?ID=493382

He's in the database as a real person (so it's not an issue with the game's fictional player creation). I only see once instance of him so not sure how he came in twice. But given he's in the OOTP database once, that also eliminates a database duplicate as the cause of the issue.

Did you elect to draft him twice or did you draft another player in one of those rounds and the game "lost" that player and just replicated this guy in the drafted guys spot? One other question, did you investigate this individual in any way prior to the draft? To open his record, click on his record? It is possible to clone a player and if you entered the record as commish and were moving fast, you may have cloned him in error. Just trying to brainstorm...

As for your game, may want to edit the first name and think of him as a twin and see how their careers diverge.

When you have time, can you take a screenshot of the player(s) editor page(s). Oh, to attach pics, try hitting "Go Advanced," scroll down to the button "Manage Attachments", a pop-up appears and you can then navigate to upload a screenshot (wherever it saves on your computer). I just want to check those shots against the database. If I can't see anything that provides insight from those shots, I'm baffled.

Yes that's him.
Like I tried to say I drafted another player in round two. And him (Jack Mckernan) in the third round. In some way my original second round pick 'disappeared' and Jack Mckernan was drafted instead in both the second and third round.
I do not play the game in commish. Have never touched that before you asked me to look in the editor.
My 'workflow' in a draft is going back and forth between shortlist screen and notes screen, and of course the draft itself.

Some interesting developments is that I signed him. He didn't play rookie-ball this 2025 season because of the schedule. And now in September I got an email where he failed to sign with the White Sox. So I lost two picks you could say. I lost the initial second rounder and a third rounder in the 2025 draft.
When I negotiated with him, I picked one of the names in the list and when an offer was sent both Jack Mckernan names where grayed out and had received the offer.

I attached some screenshots!

And thank you for letting me know about how to attach screenshots

Can you go the MLB Logs and see the name of the other person (2nd pick) was and try to look them up in the search bar?

I don't think Jack was literally drafted twice, I think that the disappeared person was drafted, never negotiated with and you lost you pick because of it.

The game is co-mingling the tokens/info associated with the 3rd pick with the 2nd. So, I think you did sign the 3rd pick but that signing was overwritten by the "failed to sign" trigger when the disappeared guy's info got written into the same record.

As for game play, I'd recommend that in the next draft, go to commish mode on the draft pool announcement day and give yourself compensatory picks in the 2nd and 3rd round (in the same spots your blown draft picks were). That's only fair. Or, if you locate the disappeared guy, go to Commish mode and assign him and Jack manually to your lowest minors (player editor page again w/Commish on). Consider it a judgement where the arbitrator found in favor of the team and restored them to team control.

If you mean the draft log I attached two screenshots from our picks in the second and third round.

I will move on from this save tonight. This was a try and get in to OOTP again after 1.5 years away from the game. Have a handle of the game again so will start a new save.

Really appreciate your time with this issue LandsdowneSt
