Assistant GM’s Against what I think is a good trad

Playing 1971 as the Pirates (although not much left of the original team) with real and fictional players. I started the save in 1970 and feel I have really built a strong team. However, there is so much to this game, and you never know how a move / trade / etc could affect the game. I was 9 1/2 games up at the all-star break. Just entering August and my last 10 games are 1 - 9. Still. 5 1/2 up but wonder about my last trade. I traded Claude Osteen and Rollie Fingers away for a pretty high rated fictional starter right after the break. Makes me wonder if I messed up the chemistry, or just coincidental. Osteen was in the bullpen at the time of the trade. I still have 6 starters, so I just moved my lowest performing starter to the bullpen. Oh, did I mention that in those ten games, I have had 2 double headers and two extra inning games, including a 21 inning game. My bullpen has been devastated.
On another subject, I have seen other YouTube videos talk about some players just not performing up to expectations. As an example, Tom Seaver on the Mets currently has a losing record, with an ERA around 3.5. Remember in 1971, his ERA was 1.76 with a 20-10 record. I was trying to pick him up in a trade, and they keep asking for any of 5 high ranked players on my team. I’m actually surprised they would even consider the trade. They would take any of the following: Reggie Jackson, Cesar Cedeno, Ted Simmons, Steve Garvey, or Joe Morgan.. My Assistant GM does NOT recommend trading any of the players, 1 for 1, to get Seaver. Maybe because Seaver is not performing up to standards. Looking at his performance, I just think they are leaving him in too long. He seems to be getting hit hard in innings 7-9. He has higher ratings than any of current starters. I do have plans for each of those players. Jackson would be my RFer next year, as Clemente is entering his last year and ratings might drop more. Cedeno will take over in CF with Jackson moving. Garvey is my starting 3B as of now. Simmons will probably be my primary catcher with Sanguillen as backup. And Joe Morgan is my leadoff hitter and 2Bman. But I sure would like to get Seaver. I currently have Dock Ellis, Steve Carlton, Catfish Hunter, and 2 fictional pitchers that are my 2 highest ranked starters. Interestingly, Dock Ellis is my lowest ranked starter and yet my best performing pitcher. I have a decent backup 3Bman if I trade Garvey, but Garvey seems to be the most in-demand player I have, along with Ted Simmons. I’m trying to make sure my team is set for the playoffs. Other players on the team are Stargell, Clemente, Pete Rose, Freddie Patek fill out my the rest of my lineup with a bullpen of Tug McGraw, Jim Brewer, Dave Giusti, and 2 fictional players with excellent numbers.

Asst GM's always think trades are bad. I tend to ignore them.

Yeah I think my AGM drinks ... I just send him out on a long lunch with Don Draper and then make the deals that need to be made.

I don't see that asst GMs consistently don't like trades. I do believe they don't understand trades to cut payroll.

OP, in contrast to discord and slack, on this message board the enter key doesn't post the message.
