The War Year Guys
I wonder if we will ever have a way to stop recalc from crushing the war year guys? I play a lot of random debut and I've always struggled with seeing guys like Williams, DiMaggio and Feller take huge performance hits during the years they missed due to the war. The higher adjust/weaken settings recommended earlier this version have softened this quite a bit performance wise, compared to earlier versions. The main problem standing in their way now appears to be injuries. Ted Williams will go from a iron horse rating to a wrecked rating during the war years and then back to iron horse once the war years are over.
I'm going to suggest something here and I know it goes against all that is historical and I will probably rightfully take some shots for even daring to suggest it, but here goes..... what if the developers were to simply make up season stats for the years these players missed? Ted Williams hit .356 with 36 home runs and a .499 obp in 42, He hit .342 with 38 home runs and .497 obp in 46. I have zero doubt that Garlon could easily produce the numbers for Williams for the 1943,44 and 45 seasons. The whole idea of these guys playing during these years is fictional, so I see no problem with the developers changing history. I do wonder if something like this would require separate databases though. I know there are folks that like to have players miss seasons according to history, so filling in the missed years with made up stats might not work for them. |

I’d wager Garlon already has such a no-war database. I know he has an adjusted eras file to adjust the LTMs for one. Same as our NeL mod, you’d just load that db at the start of the game. The eras file I believe would need to adjusted if you want to start a new game without it (back to true historical). But having multiple era files is easy so long as you remember which one is active. I’m sure he can come on and talk it. Don’t know if he did just the stars or not. Just happen to see this while and work and want to chime in. It’s not sacrilegious, it’s just the stuff of mods…
As for the default game on of the OOTP25 patches … build 53? Build 58? You’d need to go back and look, but Matt laid out a new approach to recalc’ing war guys.

Yes, in one of the change list Matt talks about it. A few years ago the neutralized stats would put in 200 ABs for missing seasons. I forgot what was put in for pitchers. I think Spritze did that. At the time, I didn’t care for it but maybe it was a decent idea.

Thanks guys. Man, major error on my part. Williams actually entered my current league at the age of 27, so the period in which his injury proneness got cranked up so high was for the time he served in the Korean War. Thing is during those years, he actually played briefly, so it wouldn't be as easy to simply make up stats for him. That may be why the game is treating him like he may have been injured.

Matt did I prove the handling of the WWII seasons in a patch for OOTP 25.
If you are using 1yr recalc and the player has a gap season it just holds their previous rating. If you are using 3yr it will do the same if there are no stats across the 3 seasons if recalc too. My suggestion would be to simply switch over to 5yr recalc during WWII seasons. The neutralized stats DB does not fill in gap seasons. |

I solve the problem by simply not having any wars to interrupt my historical replays. ("War is dangerous for children and other living things", like ballplayers.)

I wish it was that simple. Recalc doesn't recognize the fact that I want a war free OOTP world with an alternative stat history. It's my fault, I just can't stomach 5 year recalc. 5 year recalc is like turning on the the classic rock station the day the dj is doing a tribute the Air Supply and Bread.
