Great Disappointment

I am very disappointed with how OOTP25 handled the 2020 season. I had been playing a career that had gone 41 seasons when 2019 ended. The next thing I know is that there are no minor leagues, okay, I can live through that. Unfortunately, a bunch of my top players though not rule 5 eligible, became free agents and were signed by other teams. I then tried to fix it by making all teams human controlled so that I could make a cheap trade and get them back. That did not work so I went back to where I was the only human manager, but I was no longer able to run my team. MY career that has taken over three years to play is shot I am so disappointed with the process that was used for the 2020 season. IT has destroyed my love of the game. I will always ensure that any future career will terminate at 2019 so that I do not get screwed again!

What do you expect? There were no minors in 2020.

Also, this is NOT an OOTP 25 thing, OOTP 24, no minors in 2020, OOTP 23, no minors in 2020, OOTP 22, guess what, no minors in 2020.

So no, this is not an OOTP 25 thing.

Also, since you have commish mode, why didn't you just go in and edit the player an put them back on your team? It's as easy as edit player, Bio tab, scroll down on left hand side of page, at very bottom you can put them right back on your team.

In fairness to the release issue that is an in-game side effect of a team disappearing, the teams should probably remain and the schedule be set to zero games. Also, it’s not like or 1981 or 1994 seasons are cut short in default historical games. They play as if there were no external disruptive factors at play. I can see a strong case for just having the minors there and a full schedule.

Fully agree. I am now in 2021, the minor leagues are back. By the way, in previous versions of OOTP, I never got as far as 2020 or I started the year of the game. I think the game should play as if there are no disruptions, but provide an option where strike/lockouts/pandemics, etc can be chosen to get a real feel of reality. I would never select these options but I can see how some playing a career would. The one other issue with 2020, when the minor leagues return in 2021, all existing coaching staff were gone and replaced with unproven coaches. It would affect my budget to fire them all and hire better coaches.

Agree as well. Or can the 2020 season be set with enormous reserve rosters? That way the league and teams disappear but all the players remain in the organization.

Maybe this is a dumb idea since I don't know much about game programming, but why doesn't the game switch to a no-limit reserve roster for 2020 or place all the minor league players on the injury list for the entire season? That way, you wouldn't lose your minor league players. I don't usually play with the minor leagues and haven't reached that season yet, but this seems like a reasonable workaround to me.
