Importing New Data into OOTP History

Is the OOTP History program set up so that we have to create a new database every time we run the program? Or are we supposed to import new data into already existing databases? The reason I ask is that I got an error mesage about duplicate fileds when I tried to import a new set of data into an already set up database.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Not sure you're precise problem. I'd need a lot more about your database and the Cato Version you are using to hazard a guess.

You should be able to import data into the existing database. This is what provides the multiple seasons worth of data. However if you attempt to import the same season twice you can get the duplicate fields.

Cato's utility is designed to be run only once per season. (You can do in season updates, but you'll have to restore a backup of the Cato database from the previous season after each time through the utility)

Hope this helps.

Actually, this answers my question. We were doing in season updates, so that is probably the source of the import problem. Thanks!

We're using 5.3 and if we want to update the database during next season, what is the process necessary to do this? You mention restoring a backup of previous year's database, but what does this mean in practical terms? I'd like to be able to update the file during any season as they progress.

Thanks again.

Chris,

What you would need to do is at the end of the season (for example 2006) you would backup your end of 2006 Cato database. (Create a new copy).

Then when you do your first in season update proceed as normal. When you are ready to do the second in season update, simply copy your backup file over the old database, and import again. Everything will have been updated. Repeat the process after each sim and you can keep it updated throughout the season (sometimes nice when tracking player milestones/progression up the leaderboard).

Hope this helps.
