If you top someone's buy order by 1 point

That's how auctions work.

No, that's how losers work.
When the bid is 120,000, and you bid 120,001, you are signaling that your either overweight by 30 pounds, or too weak to do more than 5 push-ups. Ever seen people at an actual auction for high-priced goods start topping each other by a dollar each bid? No, because they have decency. |

I've heard they do this to avoid having to do that 6th pushup... but we'll never know for sure. Regardless, OOTP has set their incremental bid rate at 1pp no matter what the existing bid is, so whomever is out there triggering your roid-rage they're doing it well within the rules that have been established. Next time you're pumping out that 7th pushup maybe ponder why anyone would ever pay more than they have to for an imaginary baseball card.... My guess is that is has more to do with IQ than BMI.

Amen
"My guess is that is has more to do with IQ than BMI."
If you don't like having your bid topped by 1 point, top his by 999. But high priced cards like that trade rarely, so it's just a matter of being the high bidder when someone decides to just meet the bid. But if you're looking for instant gratification, just buy the lowest offer and be done with it. Personally, when I have a high priced card to sell, and I see a cluster of bids within a few percent of the high bid, I list it somewhere around the L10 price and they almost always sell quickly. It also seems to me that high value cards, when they are included in packs, tend to do so in clusters. For example, this year I pulled two of the high diamond Seavers within about a half-dozen packs and earlier this year I pulled three copies of a 70K high diamond within a couple of days. |

I bid in 5k increments, so if you top me by 1 point I will top you by 4,999. When I sell a card, I sell to the highest buyer, no matter what the L10 is. I'm not going to contribute to the wild prices for some of these cards by insisting someone pay whatever the last 10 paid. You want a card, bid whatever you can, and hopefully I can sell it to you for that discounted price. |

This kind of thread is something I refer to as Troll-in-a-Jar. The OP is unhappy with the rules, but takes to public complaining rather than petitioning the powers that be to change the rules. Kid, there's a proper way to do things. Inciting people isn't it.

I'm not trying to change the rules, the rules are fine. I'm here for two reasons: To call out losers for doing the most loserly thing you can do in this game, and provide a voice for others who feel the same way. Clearly, I've only accomplished the first of those goals, judging by the crowd that has gathered to defend the infinitely lame act of topping a 6-figure bid by 1 point. |

Name calling isn't the way to do it. It makes you appear small and petty, even if you aren't. That's my point. Appeal to people's better natures. Calling them losers does nothing but make them bristle.

Wow
"I bid in 5k increments, so if you top me by 1 point I will top you by 4,999.
When I sell a card, I sell to the highest buyer, no matter what the L10 is." Talk about ways to burn PP's needlessly. L10's are often there for a reason. |

I can't tell if this post is serious, but count me in the 'increasing the bid by 1PP camp'. Doing anything else is idiotic. Why would you increase by 5000 when 1 does the trick? smdh

And the reverse as well. I can't count how many times my sell bid is lowered by 1 point, so i do the same. The OP should quit complaining.
