1982 California Angels -- World Series Bound

Been a while since I last started a historic replay in OOTP (I've been focusing more on card-and-dice strat-o-matic lately), but I've got the bug to play a 1982 Angels historic game. I'll try to keep reporting light to make this sustainable as a poster and easy to read as a follower. Hope to make it all the way through the championship with California!

This is going to be a historic replay game--I'll be using historic transactions, injuries, and lineups. I'll be setting my own batting order and managing each Angels game in one-pitch mode (no fast-forwarding!). Hoping to get as close to a real life tabletop baseball sim experience as I can in OOTP.

The Oakland Athletics opened their 1982 season with a disappointing 6-4 loss to the California Angels at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, despite Oakland catcher Bob Kearney going 2-for-4 with a pair of homeruns and 3 RBIs. Left Fielder Brian Downing was a big part of the win for California. He went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

Downing had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a first pitch changeup from Rick Langford, he banged a 3-run home run to right-center, giving the Angels a 6-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Downing.

California manager Gene Mauch said his team played a "no nonsense" game.

At Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, the Oakland Athletics and California Angels were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of just over 11,600.

California centerfielder Fred Lynn hit his first home run of the year and knocked in 4 RBIs during the game.
