What happened to in-season managerial/GM changes?

OOTP used to see the AI fire you and/or your AI manager/GM counterparts mid-season. Whether the team in question got off to a bad start, or missed the playoffs and unceremonially deposed its top brass, I used to see the occasional firing before the post-WS "Black Monday" equivalent.

What happened to this phenomenon? Was there an intentional change, and if so, why?

This still happens in 25. In my fictional save the Marlins fired their GM and manager in late May.

Interesting. Did you create the save in 25? Or did you import it? I imported my save and am wondering if that plays a role. I’ve simmed 15 or so seasons on 25 now and it hasn’t happened once.
