Defensive sub issues

I'm in 2030 in a Nats start. Brady House has developed into 3.5 star player who has been an all-start for the past three seasons. He has put up 3.5 WAR for the past 3 seasons.

In games I'm winning, the AI has begun to bring in a guy at SS and move the SS to third for defensive purposes in the 8th inning--barely an upgrade. I looked for a "no defensive sub" button similar to the "no PH" setting. Not finding this I set him to no subbing before the 9th inning.

It still happens in the 8th. Why? Is it because the sub plays SS, not 3rd?

I'm still completely bemused by this.

Not only did the game keep subbing for House, but he went on to win his first Gold Glove at the end of the season.

Go into commissioner mode and give the sub some playing experience at 3B. That should trigger the AI to consider using him at that position.

You misconstrued my pronoun. House, the man subbed for defensively, went on to win the gold glove. So why did the AI take him out every time we were winning?

Well, my assumption from your post was that the AI was taking out your 3B, moving your SS to 3B, and then bringing in a substitute to play SS because that was the only position it knew.

If your sub has no experience at 3B, then that might make sense even if your starting SS is a gold glove, because the defensive upgrade at 3B is worthwhile.

So my suggestion was to use commissioner mode to give your sub playing experience at 3B. Then the AI might just put him in defensively at 3B instead of SS, and leave your starting SS alone.
