Fictional Taiwanese and Philippine teams
This is meant as a replacement for the CPBL, sort of, and also a series/ sequel to my fictional Korean and Japanese teams. It's another outlet for me, a person who had not previously made visual art, yet has now acquired the ability to draw a bird a day.
Once again, I am not from these backgrounds, and could easily make a cultural misstep. Please call out and correct me if necessary. Team names will mostly be endemic animals (Uni-Lions and Brother Elephants are not found in the wild in this country). I think I'll probably use English for these as opposed to google translate Chinese or Filipino; English is pretty widespread in these countries and is used in their sports team names. *note on the name of the country: I am aware that this is a whole issue. *likely I have even more caveats but here are some things I drew |

Manila Celestial Monarchs
In the tradition of the Kansas City Royals and Montreal and Kansas City Monarchs, here we have the Manila Celestial Monarchs, who are named after a small blue bird

I mean, Lions, Tigers, Dragons, Bears, Bulls, are all quite common in the East Asia circles (in terms of culture and acceptance). Elephants, Eagles/Hawks as well.
Teams are using these animals as part of the team names to draw power/strength/spirit Isopods do not make much sense. You can easily make a dozen teams from the Chinese Zodiac (12 animals). |

Now I do agree though that these three teams could be more connected to their localities (the Philippine teams merely feature birds that are endemic to the large islands the cities are on, while the isopod basically lives in every ocean). This is something I do try to do/did somewhat more successfully I hope with some of my prior teams.

I love the Isopods! Yeah, totally get the trying to be more particular to the locale, but I also mainly like animals haha, and it's always going to be difficult to have a very city specific animal in many cases!

Taichung Bobas
This one is heavily based on the Taiwanese official Olympic Committee pin. I put this team in Taichung, a large city and one of two mentioned on the bubble tea wikipedia page as claiming to have invented the drink. (Their actual team is the Brothers/Elephants, whose logo I previously altered into a mouse and used, I do love it.)
I made two slightly different color schemes, one is based on the pin and one is based on the flag colors of the Milk Tea Alliance. A real life version of this logo would probably have an angry snarl and little hands holding a bat. Not my thing. |

New Taipei City Magpies
this is an update of one of dinosauryoshi's teams. When I originally did it, I used an Australian rules football logo recolored. Now, I have drawn a blue magpie.
edit: not sure if I like the offwhite or the gold better. added city seal at the bottom Last edited by 20_range; 10-02-2024 at 02:42 PM. |

Taoyuan Monkeys
The Taiwanese macaque, I drew this. I'm posting it because I went into my file for this league to make the league logo and it was still sitting there. This monkey was very frustrating to draw and I still do not like it. But I can't imaging returning to this concept so here it is, if someone wants to use it for a Taiwanese league.
I was also obliquely responding to uknownick earlier in this thread. ![]() This monkey was originally eating an orange This team replaces the [Taoyuan] Monkeys in the real league, and, as ever, was an attempt to make something that was neither angry, like their old logo, or "attitude-y", like their Brandiose-y current one. primates are hard to draw. The hands were impossible (take a look at how weird they are by zooming into the source image), so I went with the Andy Petitte glove face Last edited by 20_range; 10-09-2024 at 03:34 PM. |

Kaohsiung Flamecrests
This is a small endemic bird - with a metal name.
"When excited the male erects the crest." "Because of the way flamecrests briefly touch down when feeding, only to take off again in an instant and quickly move to another spot, birdwatchers describe them as the "guerrilla army" of the forest." This replaces the TSG Hawks, and my drawing actually came out a little more tough than normal, although still not fully, I hope. That hawk wears a backwards cap. |
