Ohtani strikes out 21 and...
The MLB record for strike outs in a game was 20 (NL: Scherzer (2016), Wood (1998); AL Clemens (1986 AND !!! 1996).
Now in my save, Shohei Ohtani strikes out 21 against the Braves. Amazing achievement, right? A new single-game record, right? Big news, right?!?!? Not according to the recap: Everything was working for Shohei Ohtani at Dodger Stadium. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The fastball was working. In an unforgettable performance, the 30-year-old Ohtani fanned 21 Braves and sparked the 10-2 Los Angeles Dodgers victory over Atlanta. He left Braves hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it. "I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Los Angeles manager . "His location and command were really something." In addition to collecting 21 strikeouts over 8 innings, Ohtani allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in a superlative outing. "I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Ohtani said with a smile. No mention about the new single-game record in the game recap! I know this isn't a big "overall" issue with OOTP. But if a new single-game record is set, I would expect to see the recap mention that. Maybe even have a separate news article highlighting the achievement. ALSO: You can only select "AL" or "NL" for "Game Records" - not "MLB". I think it would make sense to also be able to select MLB single-game records in case there are differences between one league and the other, such as for RBI in a game, where the record is 12 in the NL and 11 in the AL. |

The single-game MLB record is 21, by Tom Cheney in 1962. Granted, it took him 16 innings to accomplish.

Curious, was there mention of it within the box score "Game Notes"?

You'll find single game records mentioned at the bottom of the boxscore of all places.
Agree, should be in the recap at the very least, and for something of this significance there should be a news article. Last edited by Bluenoser; 07-21-2024 at 12:01 PM. |

Not sure how much programming work this entails. But whenever a record-tying or record-breaking performance occurs, it would be great for game immersion to see a news item highlighting that. Last edited by Paul Reuschel's Mustache; 07-21-2024 at 12:26 PM. |

FYI, there was a news item mentioning the 21 strikeouts. But no mention that this was a record-breaking performance.

I agree there should be more ways to see combined records but maybe check the sarcasm at the door when you don't know what you're talking about. |
