Can I edit the city an MLB team is in, in game files?

I like playing 19th-century starts and all the Troy teams keep being from Troy, Michigan rather than Troy, New York. If I only had to edit it once, that would be... acceptable, but I have historical expansion on, so every year it gets reset and the team teleports back to Michigan. (Also, a few other teams have this same problem. I like learning how to fix problems in general so I don't have to ask the next time I come across it.)

Thanks!

Also, is there a way to do the same for players? Have their cities of birth be the ones they were actually born in and not a city with the same name in another state? Don't mind doing all the work, just need to know how to do it. :P

I think what you're doing is the only way to do what you want to do. The issue that you're seeing - cities with the same name in different states - is known to the developers and has been for quite a while. It's just a pretty low-priority issue that hasn't been fixed yet.

Alright, thanks. It's annoying to have to fix it in game so much, but I can certainly understand how it's pretty low priority.

During game creation before you do anything else, make your edits, then make a template.

or,

Find the associated file in the data/ folders or edit the db files. Then anytime you make a new league, it will use the edited files.

* keep a copy of edited files in a safe secondary location. After any update, you'll have to copy them back over again... ensure none of the updates impace the files you dinked around with, too. mimic the subdirectory structure and you can copy and paste in one swoop.

I've been trying to do that, I just can't seem to find any that have that information. "Teams" is what I edited to have all the American Association teams in the American League, but there's no column or anything with "city" or something. The minor league equivalent "MiLBTeams" has one. Hmm. I suppose I could make a "City" column or something and see if that does anything? (After making a backup, of course, I have plenty of experience in modding games when it comes to editing text.)

But even if none of that works, the "saving a template" thing is definitely a good idea in general.

Edit: Well, the cities in MiLBTeams seem to just be city names with no state identifiers. There goes that.
