What would be the tactical differences between a "playmaker" and a "setup man?"
The game tells me the only difference lies in the playmaker needing higher face-off rating and setup man needing more stick checking. Is this just a "center vs winger" distinction or is setup man somehow more of a "transition offense" role?

I'd asked this on the subreddit before because I'd thought the same thing RE C/W designation.
Jeff responded saying that the roles are not designed to be specific for a particular position only. However, the distinction is that a setup man is more likely to provide assists for a heavy scorer on his line, as where as a playmaker is more of a general offense generator. Just gone back through the subreddit to try and find that but was unable to, so maybe it was on here or elsewhere - either way, that's my understanding of it, though I tend to find that my C's are better Playmakers and my W's are better Setup men regardless. |

That the playmaker role gives a slight boost to his faceoff ability is a no brainer to put the center in that role as well while having less benefit to a winger.
