Question on league size

I am looking to start over in a new league and want to try something different...a shorter season. What do you all think would be the right amount of teams for say a 60 game season and a 90 game season

That's not an easy question to answer because there are schedules for 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 30, 32, 36, 40, and 50 team leagues using a 60 game schedule and for a 90 game schedule there are schedules for 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24, 30, 32, 40, 48, 56, and 64 team leagues. Those are just the MOD schedules in the OOTP Mod - Schedules sub forum and there might be other options that those with better math skills than myself could come up with. With all those possibilities I would ask yourself what kind of league structure do you want and let that help determine the right # of teams for you.

You need to consider more than just season length. What type of playoff structure are you leaning towards (if at all)? How often do you want teams playing? Single or multi game series?

I think that is the NEL schedule 60-80 games. Why can't we have play NEL with actual transactions and schedule?

These days, I tend to play 12 teams for either 60 or 66 games per season. I'm a long time daily sim player who has embraced playing out games but doesn't want to play out 162. It's been fun. At 66, you can play three-game home and away series vs. each team in the league. I've done 10 teams with 54 games, allowing the same home/away series with each team. The smaller # of teams, also makes it a touch easier to feel immersed with the competition and all the players around the league.
