Classic 2D

I know I’m in the minority, but I hope they never do away with Classic 2D. My laptop will handle 3D, but I just don’t care about all the graphics. I just hope this mode will stick around and they will still update any needed changes for the 2D ballparks. I’m also probably in the minority in that I play out every game as manager only so this would be a sticking point in me continuing buying the game as I have since V1.

I am in the minority with you. I use that and the web cast QUITE a bit. Love them both

Andy, I was a 2D Classic guy forever. I finally moved on to 3D, but I use 3D Classic. I place the stadium picture in the upper left corner and the play by play box in the lower right corner. I hardly ever watch the 3D graphics. I play just as I did using 2D classic. Cool thing is, I don't have to spend any time rearranging the on field labels anymore. For some reason, when I try to take a screenshot of my on field display it only shows the stadium picture, or I would post a screenshot of my setup.

I always wanted "MicroLeague" level graphics; we have those on steroids now with the the Classic 3D so I stay with that. The modern is just too busy plus doesn't really fit well on my 13" laptop screen.

I don’t play modern ootp games but I too hope they never get rid of the 2D and classic UI modes.

I agree with you. I don't play modern. I do have a modern 2024 season started but hardly ever play it. I started it and maybe played a week. I also hope they don't get rid of 2D even though I don't play that way anymore.

I also want to show support for 2D. I play about 50% of my games in this mode. OOTP has some of the best play by play out there and the ability to watch the game in my mind is a very important part of this hobby, to me. Also, you can pick things up about player performances and skills from the play descriptions that you sometimes don’t get from 3D.

I'm probably about 50/50 split between classic 2D and modern 3d.

3d definitely gives a better sense of place, but there are just too many wonky animations. I eventually get tired of seeing 14 diving catches every game and being able to tell the result of the play as soon as the ball is hit or thrown from the outfield.

I also appreciate how quickly you can play a game in 2d.

I doubt they will ever do it, but I'd love to see them have a ball animation in 2D like it's in Strat. I might play more 2D if it was.

2D does have ball animation, or do you mean that you wish OOTP's ball animation was more like Strat's?

I finally made the switch to 3D - Classic - when I began downloading some of the stadium mods that are so detailed and historically accurate and vivid. So, yeah, I'm basically enjoying the backdrop, and essentially tolerating the player movement. I find the animation to be a distraction, since the play results correspond to the narrative; not the animation. (If the narrative says the flyball is deep, it's deep, regardless of the animation showing it just behind 2B. Send the runner home from 3B!) I find myself looking forward to the camera pan around the historical stadium at the start of the game in 3D. I hope 2D remains an option, for those who prefer, and for small and limited monitors (3D admittedly verges on claustrophobic on my laptop).

Oh man, I'm exactly like you in that I find the animations distracting. I position my playing field in the top left corner of the screen and my play by play box in the bottom right corner. This allows me to focus in on the play by play box and for the most part ignore the player movement.

I'm a 2D Classic man, myself. Gives me a sort of radio feel.

I split 50/50 between modern 2d and modern 3d, with the occasional look at webcast. A few issues hold me back from being like 75% 2d:

1) I wish it had the old stadium images built in
2) I wish it had the spray odds visible in 2d mode
3) In classic 2d mode, is there a way to see runners' steal/speed ratings?

I love playing in 2d with full pbp. Do you know of any mods that add the stadium images for modern 2d? I tried the stadium pack and it didn't work; was it just me?
