You can’t compare games of vastly different types of sports and ask which is better.

Both are extremely detailed, realistic and fun depictions of their real life counterparts. Both games are worth the money and both will give you hours of fun and replayability.

The two best text sim games on the market and it’s not even close. Comparing the two is impossible because of the vast differences of the sports and how they operate.

I’m going to have to go ahead and disagree with this.

I would say it would be based on which sport you like best as they both are great games.

To each their own. To me, no other sports games on the text sim market capture their sports like OOTP and FM

If you can point out some other games I would definitely love to know about them. I’m a sucker for sports text sims and always looking for new games to play

My preference is :

OOTP
Motorsport Manager
FM

OOTP and MM have an addictive quality to them that can lure me in for days on end. MM was made in 2016 and is still the best motor sport manager game. Sadly they don't make any new MM on PC only new mobile versions.

Football Coach College Dynasty is an early access game I recently tried and it has a fun gameplay loop also. From in-depth recruiting of players that match your coaching style, signing periods, upgrading school facilities, meeting donor demands, and on field play calling. It is text only though no 3D sprites on a field yet, like old school OOTP was. It is being updated regularly on the way to full release.

The editor in FM is miles better then ours. The ability to edit future transactions and history is a game changer.

It's always killed immersion for me that MLB has a full history but nothing else does, no MILB, no international leagues. Stats are there but no actual history. Just kills it for me.

Apparently it's difficult to code so we'll see if we ever get it but at least it's on the radar

I agree mostly I probably would have FM and OOTP flipped though.
I dont usually buy alpha/early access games but I was really impressed with Football Coach College Dynasty. IT is a ton of fun..

1 man dev show but it is coming along and he keeps at the updates and it has a good mod community on discord if you want to make it like the NC@@.

I did a road to glory with Temple. Think it took me like 10-15 seasons to get #1. 10-15 seasons in College Dynasty is nothing. It is crazy fast. Nothing like sim speed in OOTP and FM like 50x faster.

Now the other college football game I have my eyes on is College BOwl
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1.../College_Bowl/

At first you are like oh this is a Retro action Madden style game. However it will have FULL Dynasty mode, and you can simulate games or play just as coach and watch like OOTP or go full action mode if Management style games isnt your thing.

I saw one of the developers stream showing recruiting and dynasty mode but it was early build. But it showed enough for me to wishlist to check in on it. It certainly has potential.

As long as the simulation doesnt get gamey like it would if you were actually playing it.

I play OOTP and FM. I like both and both games have a lot of great things.

I put FM above OOTP because everything is bigger. The scouting, the growth of a club, expanding the stadium etc. etc. I also have the feeling my input has more effect on the outcome.

OOTP is a great database and the best dynasty game for an American sports game. A lot of fun but they need to keep paying attention to the Dynasty players and not only to the cash cow named PT. When games get those type of "extra's" you know the attention shifts to that part and look what happend with a lot of games implementing the pack gimmick. To many (bad) examples out there.

Only one gives you extreme customization though.

As I have gotten older, OOTP is better for me than FM.

FM take A LOT of time to get and stay good. Scouting, playing every game out, studying tactics and how you team plays, watching in 2D to see linkage of play, etc. And don't get me started on 2 press conferences for every game.

OOTP is a better balance. I play out most games and can usually do 4-5 an hour even with roster adjustments in between. Then, once I am doing well, I'll sim some games and can come and go during a game cycle which I can't do with FM since there is so much to remember with setting tactics, roles, set pieces, etc. I go through about a season a month and about 5-10 seasons depending on life and the time I put into FM and FHM.

In FM, I used to start at league 2 in England and the amount of work needed to get to the PL is insane. Hours of work to play just a few games including some cup ties that don't even count towards my goals in the league. Add to that there is no option to sim a game (I know there is a mod but I mean as part of the game) so even when you have won the league, you still have to play out all the remaining games. In FM, I now start in L1 or the Championship because I will only get through about 5 seasons a cycle.

So it really depends. Young me was all FM; old(er) me is all OOTP. Both are great games but time available is the reason.

FM is light years ahead of OOTP in so many aspects. It just can't even be compared...If and when OOTP has the immersion that FM has then maybe I'd discuss it to be on the same level.

And behind in others.

The fact we can even be mentioned together with FM is an honor.

The amount of customization in FM blows OOTP out of water and shows they don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath.

OOTP doesn't even have true MILB, nor does it do international or indy leagues any justice. You're severely limited and handicapped by what you can change or even add on your own.
Associations are half assed and abandoned. Only really addition has been regulation and that has been abandoned as well.

Still the #1 reason why FM is better is no PT. Once they sold out it was over.

I've never played FM so I can't comment on which is better. All I know is I get hours and hours of enjoyment out of OOTP and that's good enough for me!

You're kidding, right? They have accurate minor leagues for standard and a pretty advanced historical minors database too. They have independent leagues for standard as well, though you are right that international for modern day is lacking. Though if I wanted to I could make my own Andoran league or Liechtenstein league. Or fake countries

I love FM, don't get me wrong, but you can only play modern. No historical. OOTP is a sandbox, FM is current play only. Have you played a random debut FM sim?

No true winter leagues, associations half assed. No Triple-A National Championship Game.
Fake countries is cosmetic when all the underlying rules are the same.
Want a salary floor, ability to loan players, make any other rules then a 9 inning game. Don't think we have true the league that can't be named or KBO roster rules.

Can I edit history, Or records?

There are so many ways we lack the ability to customize the games.
