I am starting a league using OOTP3 and put all of the players in the free agent pool and set all of the scouts to average. But for some reason whenever a player is drafted the ratings change for all of the players even though the scouts were set to average. Do the coaches have an effect on what the ratings appear to be? Does anyone have a clue why this is happening?

Brian:
When I was going thru my edited league and signing free agents, I noticed all of the free agents' numbers changed whenever I switched to a new signing team. That was when I hypothesized that this baby was taking into account the ballpark effects, essentially telling you how he would hit or pitch with half of his games in a particular stadium.

The reason you are seeing rating/talent changes is because the game treats each teams "Average" scouts as different "Average" scouts. Disabling the scouting feature will get you consistant and matching ratings (though not 100% accurate - the players real ratings are hidden).

Thanks guys. I already decided to disable the feature to try that out, so I guess I will leave it that way at least until the initial draft is over. It just makes everything too confusing when I have a website up with ratings that are constantly changing and people are trying to come up with a list of players they want. But I feel a lot better now to hear that they will be consistent now. Thanks again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Killebrew, I had the impression that disabling the scouting feature would give you the "actual 100% accurate" ratings everytime. OOTP1 or Markus can you clarify? |

No, you can NEVER see the 100% accurate ratings of the players, that is part of the challenge of the game.

Actually I like the "hidden ratings" idea, I just thought disabling the scouting feature meant it would play out like a "replay sim" where all the ratings were solid 100% accurate.
How far off are the ratings? Does this mean that even with the scouting feature disabled, a 9 on HR ability might actually be a 7? Do the talent ratings fall off as much too? So a guy with a "Good" rating can actually be "Poor"? |

Oh ya, BTW, how accurate are the ratings when the scouting feature is disabled? Is it about as accurate as an average scout?

I think it would be closer to 1 talent/potential grade or one current ability number off, but that 1 grade and/or number can make a huge difference within the game, especially with the borderline players. |

With the scouts disabled, are the opinions of the player more accurate than even a "Brilliant scout"? Out of curiosity, how did you test this? Is this how most people running internet leagues play? |

I am fairly positive about that based on spring training tests I did and coach/scout tests a league mate of mine did after v3 was released. All the scouts can be wildly off, but the brilliant rated scouts are accurate more often than the poor rated scouts. When they are wrong they can be just as far off though, while the no scouts option will be consistant.
As for what most leagues use - not sure but of the dozen leagues I have been involved in, 1 had coach/scouts from the start, and another added them in season #2. |
