Releasing a player with team options
Just curious when it comes to releasing a player who has a team option for next year, does the TO automatically get declined? I don't want to release the player if it will tack on the TO for next season to the expense for this year.

I don't know what TO means but this will be help.
If you release a player who has a team option, then you only have to pay buy-out. ------ for example. today 2/21/24 pre-peason 2024 10m 2025 10m 2026 10m - Team Opt (buyout 2m) 2027 10m - Team Opt (buyout 2m) ------- If you release him right now, then you will pay 24m to him. If you have more than 24m for this season, you can decide if you will pay 24m right now or pay it for 4 years(6m for each years because 24÷4=6) if you have less than 24m then you are forced to pay for 4 years. team option years automatically get declined when you release a player. You are only on the hook for the non-option years and if there is a buyout amount on the TO year(s) than you're on the hook for the buyout amount too. But assuming there's no buyout terms on the TO year, you're only on the hook for whatever non-option year amounts remains
