Post season injury
This morning I was watching game 1 of the NLCS between Dodgers and Padres. During the game the Dodgers Joe Judge was injured and had to leave he game. He missed the second game as the injury was being diagnosed. Following the off day he was officially diagnosed with a groin strain. Injury was listed as day to day. He is also listed as out for the rest of the NLCS and will be able to return following the series if his Dodgers can win.
Why can't we have this type of stuff during the regular season? If this happens during the regular season, Judge would be listed as day to day and his percentage effected would be listed and the AI would just go on playing him. I love that we can now raise the rates of short term injuries to our desired level, but I still think OOTP need more short term injuries that actually drive a player out of the lineup for a few games here and there. Look at MLB rosters on a daily basis and there always seems to be someone out for a few games dealing with a minor injury of some sort. I know Devers just missed 2 or 3 games this past week dealing with a sore shoulder, as he's on my AL only fantasy team. If players missing more games to minor aches and pains, eliminates the need to use the articial fatigue crutch I'm all for it. |

You're not seeing this in your game now? Or you are asking to see it more often?
I have no actual data on how often this happens in my game, but it does happen. My LF just sat on the bench as a possible PH for the last three days with a minor injury. I can specifically recall two other instances in my season where I just played my 30th game. As far as the AI, I do see them playing guys against me with the "yellow cross" icon on occasion. I am not sure though if this is limited to diagnosed injuries? IE I don't know if the AI keeps undiagnosed injured players on the roster until it gets the actual report? But my feeling is it does not IL them until it has an official report. Maybe that's wrong as I rarely go through the league IL, but it seems to be how the AI handles injuries for my minor league clubs.

I don't manage or gm. I strictly watch games. As a human manager I would be apt to sit guys dealing with a minor injury for rest. The AI not so much. |

Yes. With that in mind I do see the AI play yellow cross guys against me, but I don't dig into the injury itself and can't say how it started/progressed.
After my game when I advance the day the game won't advance if I have a minor leaguer injured. Instead I get an email detailing the injury and the game goes to that team's page. If the player it "out" he will already be on the IL. If he's undiagnosed he won't be. If he's "day to day" he might be on the IL or he might not. I think that's due to the AI making decisions for me at the minor league level on who to play injured and who not. If it's deemed he won't be used the player goes on the IL. I like it this way as I get the opportunity to manually give a guy days off if I don't want him playing. I will admit I haven't given this any thought until your post so this is just off the top of my head. The only thing I see wrong with playing a guy that is injured with a degradation in his ability is it increases the chance of further injury, every time. At least I don't believe there is a diagnosis of "playing won't cause any further damage, ie he can play if he can tolerate the pain". I know when my son played basketball Doc gave him this kind or report two or three times. I'd like to have this diagnosis as part of the game. With that one could feel safe putting the player out there. Without? I probably don't play them. Maybe in this case there could be downside of complete recovery would take a bit longer? IDK, like I said it's off the top of my head.

I just think it would be cool if the game had more minor injuries that forced a guy to sit the remainder of a series or into the start of the next one. Of course, team days off would factor into this as well. I know in real life the player is constantly getting reevaluated and that would be impossible for OOTP to simulate, but I do think the game could require players to rest more often while recovering from a minor injury. In the meantime, using the diagnose feature at least keeps players out at times for a game or two, so it's not all bad. Last edited by David Watts; 04-17-2024 at 12:51 PM. |

To state it in simpler terms, what DW wants is for injuries to be more dynamic.
Right now, if a player is DTD with an injury for three weeks, the injury ratings are unchanged throughout the three weeks (as far as I know). It would be cool if for some injuries the game allowed a more dynamic evolution, such as the player being out the first week, moderately injured the second week, and minimally injured during the third week. |
