OOTP25 Grade: A Report Card
Amimation C+: While the motions are better than any rendering to date, tired of players sliding in to home, after they have touched the bag, Firstbasemen WAY OFF BASE when they get the ball for an out (and stretch AFTER they catch the ball), and my least favorite so far Outfielders who dive 100 percent of the time catch the ball (even when ball is well in the gap, as soon as they dive it will return to their glove in a play that defies physics and logic).
Develo[ement Engine Grade Incomplete: Do not have any of my Sims far enough along to actually grade. Pleased so far. Historical Data Base E-: More obscure players, but the DEV uses a position of DH when position in doubt, even years before it was a position (they used to put no position, only arm and range), and when running a Historic Sim, Managers have no history (they used to). I will give them credit, the two or three players from my homestate of WV now have proper State, but small victory at best). 3D Stadium E-: Historic replays use a Spring Training Stadium, very basic. Fenway, and Yankee Stadium will in some years appear, but in 2024 form. Please feel free to add grades, or critique mine for Lukas and his staff to ponder. |

Development has improved from an F to a D for me with the latest patch. It's still wonky.

Yes. You can stream it with the Xbox app.
It is debatable, and I'm not trying to create problems, just point them out. A lot of people are going to pop in to OOTP and see what are some glaring issues right now and go back to The Show. Here's hoping some fixes are inbound. |

Been a few years since I played The Show and don't get me wrong it's always been a real fun game, but that's an apples and oranges comparison (unless there's been a drastic change made to The Show in recent years) I'm not even saying one is better than the other. But what each game offers was always completely different - to the point that I don't even know how you compare the two. |

What are some other examples of perfection in your life that can be purchased for $50? Congrats to Markus! You have created the best baseball sim, but have only failed to be perfect. Last edited by uruguru; 04-12-2024 at 09:09 AM. |

I think the point was he thinks OOTP is great but always looking for ways to improve (strive for perfection) is never a bad thing. |

That's what I wanted to say but my English was not enough to explain my thought. I will be more careful next time. Yeah. My point was - everyone in this thread has acceptable points so we must embrace each posts with open mind, Instead of unilaterally denying it. because the points looked like somewhere be going to wrong way. Anyway, everybody loves this game and that's why we are talking here, isn't it? |

I can't disagree with the animation grade; although it's not a very important factor in my enjoyment of the game. That's where, if graphics is your thing, the "arcade" games like The Show are going to be more flashy and impressive. Not my thing.
I would give the Development Engine at least a B+ based on admittedly partial trials. Maybe incomplete is a better assessment. I have been impressed with how it has been refined. It is clearly improving, with lots of effort. I appreciate that. I play mostly historical, and I would give that database a B+. Again, a long work in progress to incorporate Negro League players with meaningful equivalencies. And a long effort to complete the minor leagues and early days. There has been steady and at times remarkable improvement on this in the four years I have been playing. The trend is favorable, and of course this is tremendously labor-intensive. I would have to give Stadiums (stadia?) an A, when one considers the vast array of awesome mods that are available for download. I might not put a premium on animation; but it boggles the mind that I can play Federal League games from 1914 and 1915 in magical renderings of the original ballparks. That does enhance the experience of playing the game. Comparisons? I have played just about every baseball simulation from cards and dice to primitive computer (DOS) versions to arcade games. I have landed on OOTP, and I'm unlikely to play others at this point. (Except of course for OOTP Go! when I'm away from my computers...) I agree that we should - in this thread - be comparing OOTP 25 to 24, and so forth. Not to other games with other schemes and audiences. I find 25 to be an improvement overall. But I also know that 25 will continue to get better, with patches and new releases (like today), thanks to our feedback.

Regarding your second point, yes, The Show has made significant progress. It includes the full minor leagues with all the stadiums, uniforms, and more. It also features MLB teams and now incorporates a historical element. Additionally, it has Diamond Dynasty as a complement or competition to Perfect Team. The roster management in The Show has also improved, with features like waivers, a 40-man roster, and an injured list. However, the main difference lies in the graphical experience, where The Show provides a better visual experience and allows you to play the games yourself, while OOTP focuses on delivering a more robust statistical experience. So, are we comparing apples to oranges? I think not, but everyone has their own opinion. For OOTP to continue its long-term success, it must excel at what it's designed for – a divine statistical and managerial experience. Last edited by Bagpipes5; 04-12-2024 at 06:45 PM. |

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assert that most people that play MLB The Show do not even know that OOTP exists.
I've played a ton of The Show, and this year is perhaps its best release, but I can't imagine playing The Show for the management and simulation aspects - and surely no one is playing OOTP because they feel like living the life of a pro level 2nd basemen. Combing the strengths from both in one game would be the best thing ever. I'd buy a new version every year and probably lose my job. |
