Desperate Help Needed - Commissioner Mode Unavailable
Hi There,
I'm about 12 years into my new game with over a hundred hours put in. I am playing in Challenge mode where Commissioner mode is disabled. I have looked everywhere in all game settings and can't find anyway to bring it back. I accidentally gave a AA coach a $75 million dollar contract. Yes, $75 million. It has crippled my game and will ruin it if I can't fix it, as its a 4 year contract just signed. How can I edit this back down to the $75,000 its supposed to be at? PLEASE tell me there's a way. I am very limited in my computer knowledge so any step by step instructions would mean more than you could ever know. Thank you - praying someone can help today! Better question might be - how do I delete this coach? Hopefully that wouild then give me the salary back this year and the next four years?

Commissioner mode can be enabled when in challenge mode, but it will disable challenge mode permanently in that save.
Go to the Game menu, select Game Settings. On the Global Settings tab, select the Global Actions menu in the upper right. Select Enable Online League Mode You should now be the commissioner and can edit your coaches contract. You can go back and disable the online mode when you're done. You'll be able to enable/disable commissioner mode from your manager settings screen from then on. |

Looks like help arrived.
A coach-related mishap is also how I learned not to use challenge mode in a long term save. Last edited by FantasyDrafter; 04-06-2024 at 05:16 PM. |

Alternatively, you can suck it up and play out your current season as-is. Before advancing to the offseason fire your coach, you'll take the full contract hit all at once and your owner will cover the losses.

The other possibility, if you are religious in your backups, is to restore from a point just prior to the erroneous offer. You would of course lose anything that has happened since; but it would be a way to avoid the huge unintended contract hit.

THANK YOU GUYS for taking the time to respond. You are life savers.
This is the best forum around and its because of you. Thank you! BTW, this is BY FAR the hardest version of OOTP yet. I'm 12 years in with Royals and can't even make the playoffs. Typically I've won a World Series or two by now in all past editions. This one is impossibly hard. One thing I am noticing is there are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too many "wrecked" players. 2/3 of any position player above 50 in overall rating is wrecked by time they hit free agency. This needs to be fixed. |

Let's look at last year's free agent class for position players that could be considered 50+ OVR and their average games played over the last 3 seasons.
Bellinger - 123 JD Martinez - 133 Chapman - 148 Soler - 119 Gurriel - 135 Teoscar - 144 Hoskins - 87 Merrifield - 148 Candelario - 137 Renfroe - 136 Hoskins is the only one you could make an argument for being "wrecked" but that's largely influenced by an ACL tear as he averaged 131 games in the preceding 2 seasons. Wrecked should apply to guys like Trout and Rendon, who each would have been considered durable going into their free agency but have gotten hurt a lot in the years since. |

I have a quite obnoxious "challenge mode" calamity - in the 3rd year of my simulation, the National League got rid of the DH. I play with a AL team so it didn't bother me until I lost my first World Series because my team was completely overmatched in the NL game. Mostly I was just amused by the fact that the Dodgers are paying Shohei Ohtani $46MM/yr to be a #3 starter who gets 150 AB per season... but now I'm done with it and want to "fix it".
Unfortunately, I don't see the "workaround" option suggested above in my game. Was this "loophole" closed? Either way... beyond frustrating ... i'll never start another new league in which I can't use Commissioner Mode. |

It does indeed appear to have been closed off.

In my opinion, if you're going to play in challenge mode and commissioner mode off you reallllllllyyyyyy need to go through all settings with a fine tooth comb before beginning. I normally like the idea of the random rule changes from year to year since that seems to reflect reality as of late, but at the same something like eliminating the DH can be a crippling to someone (to your point about Ohtani). I've always played in commish mode and then been very strict about never abusing it, mainly because I'm always afraid that my own carelessness would lead to some problem that couldn't be reversed. |

Here's how you can get rid of that coach without turning off challenge mode. 1. Go to league settings for any of the minor leagues and re-assign some random team to your organization. Ideally, if you can, pick an independent team. (yes, you can do that in challenge mode) 2. Now that team is in your organization, demote your manager to that team. 3. Go back to the minor-league settings and reset that team back out of your organization. Congratulations! He is now someone else's problem. |

I wonder why this had to be patched? What issue did it cause that it needed to be "stealth" removed. I don't remember any patch notes saying this was an issue and that it had to be fixed. This is a total bummer cause now, anyone that has stuck months into a deep, long save, that has some kind of fluke like finances going crazy, now has no option to save that save. It's now a lost cause
