AI trading frequency
In years past i've always changed the AI Trading Frequency setting to 'low' as it seemed like there were too many trades. This year, i've set it to low and haven't seen a single trade in the first month of the season (MLB standard save). Is 'normal' the way to go this year? I didn't play last year so wondering if this has been tuned recently and what setting is the best for a realistic MLB save

I wish I could give you an answer, but I haven’t gotten very far. You could try simming a few seasons on the different settings and check the results that way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For reference, there are roughly 100 trades from the offseason to the deadline IRL every year. A high trade frequency in the game would reach those numbers, so the default is low by comparison.

I think you need to at least run through your trade deadline date [July 31 in my sims] to test this. I too set AI trade frequency to Low or Very Low. That seems to yield a flurry of deals at the end of Spring Training - mostly marginal players, as IRL teams cut rosters to 25 (in my sim) and have to trade or DFA guys with no options left - but little action after that until close to the trade deadline. Particularly with the new trade deadline intervals feature set up, there are still lots of deals, and lots of trade proposals (some bizarre) from the AI. Then of course only the odd waiver deal through the postseason.
In part, I set trades to Low or Very Low frequency, because I still don't like the logic of some AI trades. (As Commissioner, I have reversed the worst deals, as a kind of house rule.) Also, although I play with annual recalc off and development on, high TCR, I still would prefer that teams essentially maintain their rosters. [I know it seems inconsistent, to tolerate player changes, but not player movement. Emerson said that "consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds". So there.] I have also been known to take control of the weakest teams as GM, in order to work some deals to remove dead wood, promote prospects, and sign free agents. It's amazing to shop a player and find at least one team willing to offer a good deal for him. The trade algorhithm for shopping seems to be different from the pure AI to AI trade logic.

I have trading set on Low. Here's a look at my trade log 1 week into season 2. (36 team league)
League start date was 03/01/01, so no trades til close to deadline in first season. Then there was a few during the off season. _ Last edited by Bluenoser; 03-27-2024 at 11:13 AM. |

I played with 'low' in 24 and liked it. But I have also noticed far fewer trades when set to low in 25. I don't have the game handy, but I had a couple Julys where there were fewer than 10 trades when set to low. I'll be giving the default trade setting a try this year. |
