Packs will be a lot harder to earn unless you pay

I am seeing several changes in the years game that will make it much harder for casual players to earn packs.

- no PT+, IMO was well worth the $6.99 just for the log in rewards
-only 2 quick tournament slots- even without PT+ you had 3, and with PT+ you had 4, so it is cut in half
- daily rewards only for top 16. Last year it was 32 so if you made it past the first round you got a couple packs
- quick perfect drafts for packs- unless I am missing it the only quick perfect drafts are for points

I get that they added additional daily/weekly tournament slots. I am assuming this is so people don't have to enter days/hours in advance and have that slot taken up, but the daily tournament will be dominated by the players willing to spend money and casual players won't stand a chance.

This all just smells like an effort to force people to buy perfect points.

Can someone explain how I am wrong.

You are not wrong because casual players never have a chance in any game whatsoever.

I don't really agree.

1) PT+ was a great value, but they only had it for one year - removing it isn't exactly a nerf.

2) Last year we had 4 regular slots and 3 PD slots WITH PT+ - this year, we get 4 regular slots, 3 PD slots AND 2 quick tourney slots. So we're actually get an extra 2 slots and for F2P it's a total of 4 extra slots in PT25. This is a upgrade, not a downgrade.

3) I agree with this one, but I'll wait and see on it - there are no tourney rewards yet, so the structure may still be adjusted. I do like the 2 pack reward for winning the first round, and I hope they bring that back. But just taking the extra tourney slots into account, this surely balances out.

4) Quick perfect pack tourneys are objectively a bad pick - simply never worth using one of your two PD slots for, considering the time they take to fill vs. available daily tourneys and reward comparison - so a non-issue in my opinion.

Early in the season, F2P players never stand a chance - it takes a few months of playing the right way to build up a solid team and some decent rosters for anything other than Iron/Bronze. It's always been that way. But once we get deeper in the season, you can definitely compete as F2P.

Casual players have never stood a chance in any game, as Bailey commented. Casual does not equal F2P, though.

Appreciate the response.

I guess what it boils down to for me is the extra daily/weekly slots are basically useless because as someone who doesn't buy PPs I virtually have no chance to compete in those.

The whales are uncomfortable with the advances made by FTP into their realm. So, to appease deep pockets steps are taken.

Next year they will be charging us $6.99 a month, on top of the cost of the game to just be able to participate in Perfect Team. Just like Sony charges for Playstation Plus, so you can either play the game or play with friends..

Hahaha!! Probably not!! It was a bit of sarcasam. However, each year that has gone by, you guys have made it harder and harder for the FTP or semi-paying player to succeed with out spending major amounts of money. I get it, your in a business to make money...Just making it harder for the regular joe, thats all.

What exactly did they do to make it harder? Removing PT+ also makes buying perfect points more expensive and there is no Big PP package, either.

The $500 buy is still hidden by a different screen as if they are ashamed to offer the $500 buy.

Agree with most of this, particularly the point about FTP being very difficult early in the cycle. Paying a thousand-plus for Live Silvers is the road to ruin. Far better to use those points acquiring cards that will pop up in future missions AND can be used in tournaments. It's all about acquiring future assets and playing the live speculation game because today's overpriced meta cards are tomorrow's reserve roster.

If they could have made it fit, I am sure that they would have. It has nothing with them being ashamed.

As far as how they have made harder. Look at the post above. Since OOTP 23, we have seen the tournament packs reduced from 10/5 to 3/1. We have seen the quick tournament slots reduced from 3 to 2. Forcing us to play PD, which is fine, but they fill up so quickly, you can't even play those. I work all day, by the time I get home, they are all filled. So I am forced to rely on the 2 quicks, and pray that I win. So its either be happy with my 2 packs that I may or may not get or buy PP.

You get 2 slots for quick tournaments, 4 slots for daily/weekly tournaments, 1 for entry fee tournaments, plus the 3 PD slots and one for entry fees.

The problem is the 4 daily slots are worth a fraction of what the quick slots are to a casual player.

Each quick slot gets me into roughly 5-6 tournaments a day depending on how my team performs. That is the potential for 15-18 packs.

Each daily gets me in to 1 a day and not only do I have to set it up a day in advance, but my odds of winning packs are far lower since I am competing against players who pay for points and likely dedicate more time to the game than I am able to. We are already at a point where I can even enter maybe 1/2 the offerings and compete because other teams have already bought better cards.

I get it, I don't expect a totally level playing field, but dropping to 2 quick slots really screws the casual player, and we DID pay for the game. I basically have 2 tournament running at a time instead of 3 and whatever drafts I can find time, and the rest scheduled 10 hours out, if I can even get a slot. I just refuse to pay for points on top of it so I am stuck.

The last few years were fun because I could grind 8-10 packs a day, now I feel like I will be lucky to get 4-5, which also makes completing missions impossible. So far the experience hasn't been that great.

Call me crazy but spending your whole day grinding out packs doesn't sound all that casual to me.

eh. I don't work so it is easy to enter quick tournaments throughout the day in between other stuff. Especially once Go is up and running.

If you like substitute casual for not willing to pay above the cost of the game. the original point doesn't change.
