Only Interested in Managing Current Season

I'm a long time sim player only interested in playing current, IRL rosters playing the current IRL schedule. I'm only interested in managing games and have no interest in the rest. Can I play real 2024 rosters and play the real 2024 schedule without dealing with minors and all of the other stuff? Does anyone play that way?

Yes, go into your manager dropdown to Manager Options then under Team Control Settings pick whatever you want to control and set rest to GM.

I don't want the GM to make any roster changes. Will that work?

So you would put yourself under the Active Roster Moves, Setting lineup, setting pitching staff responsibilities.

Can I do that for all teams? I don't want the CPU changing rosters, lineups, rotations, etc. either. Basically, I want to set all of those for all teams (or use what's already entered for those) and play games without doing anything else.

You can't, once the game starts it is already a fictitious simulation (world) where the CPU (rest of the teams) move players up and down, sign players, negotiate contracts and trades, lineup changes, position changes, etc.

is very likely to be the case.

In this universe it can happen (it shouldn't because of the type of contract and the team's interest in the player) but it can happen that you simulate a week and Ohtani is traded to Miami, or Juan Soto has a lifetime injury and has to retire.

it would take a little setup work, but I'm pretty sure you can play this way. Start a 2024 season. Play in commissioner mode. Set the major league rosters for each team. Delete all of the minor leagues and all of the minor league players. Turn off injuries and suspensions. Turn off trades. Turn off financials and waivers. Delete all free agents.

I think the AI may still make adjustments to the lineups and rotations/bullpens, but, they won't be able to change the roster, because there will be no players for them to swap out with.

OOTP is the ultimate baseball sandbox. You can really play any possible way you want, it just may take some extensive setup time.

not if you turn off trades and injuries. then none of that is possible.

You can lock select players to the team/level they are on.

Go to the player's profile screen, far right, actions, select "disable AI promotion/demotion" and it affects only that player.

If you want that done for the entire team, go to that team's org page and choose the little circle at the far left, top of the list to select all the players. Then right click on the list and batch lock them to the team.

That should work.

You can also turn off trading if that is an issue. It's not a common request but, man, the game has options to do almost anything along those lines.

I also understand that he wants to control the lineups and rotations of the 30 MLB teams, and that the CPU does not make any changes in this regard. That's why I think OOTP is not the best option for what he wants.

You can play each game one at a time, if he likes. Just turn off having the other games play when another is going on at the same time. You'd have to go team by team and then when the game opens up for play, hit the sim button for each game one after the other though. Injures off, strict rotation as mentioned, maybe no fatigue. I suppose like anything it's whatever time you want to put into it.

Actually, the simulation module works that way, so he could "play" that kind of universe for a 1000 seasons in a few minutes if he likes with a pair of teams (though not the entire season - that'd be more like the preseason predictions that does that kind of run)
