Stupid question time

I'm playing fictional for the first time since I'd say OOTP13 or 14. I guess, i should clarify that, by saying I'm about to actually complete my 3rd full season playing fictional. I've tried playing fictional a few times over the years between 13 and 24, but this is the first time it feels like I could have success in terms of a long running adventure.

I don't manage or gm, I just watch my league play out. One feature I never use when playing historical is player personalities and moods. I left this stuff on for my fictional league. My stupid question. Will great players turn to puss simply by getting ticked off? This is a fictional league, but I have it set to follow history. I started in 1947. Since I'm following history, I'm using the reserve clause. Players are therefore, kind of stuck, unless they get traded. Some teams have a lot of really angry players. I like the storylines stuff like this provides, but I don't want to have it ruining careers.

Opinions may vary but I don’t think personalities drastically change players. That would be “gamey” if that makes sense. Meaning people would simply grab players with the top characteristics only. There are plenty of players with bad and nasty attitudes that perform well because their ratings dictate that they would. Also, I think the TCR effect is also overblown. There is variance but it just doesn’t take established stars and for no reason at all turn them into poor performers. So, in conclusion, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Personalities add flavor and are great for immersion but they will not sabotage your game.

I concur with this. While bad personalities can affect things, it's not like anyone would have turned away prime Albert Belle

Yup, the Oakland A's of the early 70's used to get in locker room brawls and then go out and blow teams off the field for the next month or more. Just didn't know how it worked in OOTP.

Just curious what is your longest “long running adventure”? I keep thinking that I am starting a “long running adventure” but my longest has been about 20 years. I have a good random game going on season 7 but I am trying to decide if I want to continue it when 25 comes out or make some modifications to it and start anew on 25.

Good luck with your fictional league.

I had a random this version that I ran from 1992-2022. I was doing something different with this league, in that I would fast sim to either August or September and then watch a game a day from that point forward. Allowed me to get through seasons faster.

This fictional league, I'm watching a game a day from the opening day through game 154.
