Converting Retired Players to Coaches
I converted several just retired players into coaches at the end of the season (long sim 5 years in). The new coaches' abilities are extremely good across the coaching spectrum, with most hitting-pitching development mechanics rated as Decent or better. The ratings seem a bit high(?). Has anyone noticed this before? What is the background for the conversion? Should a retired pitcher be an Outstanding pitching coach but also an above Average Hitting coach?
Macey was an outfielder and McKay was a pitcher. Looks like they are Decent at both teaching Hitting and Pitching. Any way to know what retired player would make an Outstanding Coach. Intelligence? |

I have seen this, but not always. With all respect to coaches who did not play, at least MLB, there are plenty of newly-retired MLB players who would be excellent coaches. So I don’t have a problem with high ratings. Plus I love the idea of a franchise favorite in the doguout, or bullpen, or as a base coach. What I wonder is whether newly-minted coaches will be as helpful in teaching minor leaguers new skills for development purposes.
