Question about GM Only vs GM/HC and feedback

Hello,

Just got FHM 10. Love the game. I had a question about GM Only vs GM/HC...

As GM/HC, if the AI sets my tactics for me - is my head coach doing it or is it completely random? I'm just curious how tactics are set if I'm not the one doing it.

The nice thing about GM only is, I assume the head coach is tweaking the tactics throughout the year a little bit for the best results. Of course, then I can't change lines if I need to.

Just want to again offer the feedback that allowing GM only to override a line up decision by the HC (even if it's just an "editor" type thing like commissioner mode) would be a massive upgrade over the current system. This way, lines can be tweaked if necessary and I can still simulate the idea of hiring/firing a head coach, which adds an element of immersion to the game.

1) It will set them based on your profile preferences from when you created your coach.

would be great to get these things explained in the online help.
I think many are using the AI roster/lines/organization/... functions without any deeper knowledge how it´s working.

I agree - I only know this because it was asked recently and Jeff responded with the info about. The online manual could do with an update and clarification on a lot of features/nuances.

Yeah, I'm playing as GM only but I go in and fiddle with tactics. It seems to let me do this. I've been basing decisions on the "good fit"-"bad fit" advice the game gives regarding individual players, but the coach might change the lines and sometimes you know the lines are going to change, because there's a new injury or a player ready to return from injury. I'm not sure if I'm helping my team or hurting it, but there were a lot of "bad fit" notes before I started.

Jeff might have to confirm but I'm not sure that your tactics are what is being used, even though you're able to change the drop downs - if you look at the manager options tab - it should have the tactics set to 'assistant' and greyed out if you have a HC, meaning they will be in charge of the tactics come game time, regardless of what you might see in between in the tactics tab.

Ok cool, thanks! I should've mentioned - when I do GM/HC I just make myself the HC through commissioner mode and keep my head coach employed too, just so I can pretend he's still the coach

I appreciate the response.

I tried to practice tactics. Exactly as you wrote, each match selected the most suitable one according to the principle of “good fit” “poor fit”. Chicago in the first season of FHM9 did not make it to the playoffs, the place was approximately 25th. Only the GM started a new game. In commissioner mode, I gave the head coach “aggression” and “defense”. In the regular season, he took about 5th place and reached the Stanley Cup final. Perhaps it was “aggression” and “defense” that suited Chicago very well, but it seemed to me that it didn’t make much sense to engage in tactics myself.

Whilst the addition of the new 'Good Fit/Bad Fit' feedback last year to the tactics page went some way towards shedding some light on the tactics, it still has a ways to go to illuminate the subject entirely - For instance, under each tactic it tells you what counter tactics it is strongest and weakest against.....why? There is no discernible way to find out how the opposition plays as far as I have experienced. Also, the first sentence following each tactical description doesn't really tell you anything about the actual tactical set itself and what it is, that's why that large tactics post from several iterations of FHM ago still gets recommended now because it gives you a better idea of what the tactic is supposed to be doing, how that translates to the engine or not I'm unsure. The next line, which tells you about the player types that tactic might favour such as 'requires Forwards with good screening and strength', that's good, it's telling me something. An addition that I'd like to see is info on relating it to the tactical instruction sliders, such as 'suits a team looking to play aggressively and put shots on net'.....okay great, I'll know that I should bump my shooting and aggression for 'Slot Overload' and have my big tough forwards in front of net for my shooters to get tip ins/deflections etc.

It would just tie it all together a bit more, failing all that - if those details can't be added into the game yet, the online manual could certainly do with some of that information, there's ample space there and you don't have to worry about cluttering the interface in the manual.

It does have it greyed out. I think I'm noticing more dump-ins since I set the tactics to do that, but I'm not actually counting them so it could be my imagination.

The "good fit"-"bad fit" notes weren't impressed with my coach's choices.
