Player Development Questions

I have been playing OOTP for 7/8 years now and I have always liked the player development. I also enjoy bumping the random talent modifier a bit, to see more lower round guys and signings to have a chance of exceeding expectations.

However, this year I have had some SERIOUS issues with player development. In fact, I'm having issues with players developing AT ALL. This has caused me to look over some of the mechanics that go into development (coaching, budgets, morale, on field production, etc., etc.}, and ask for some clarification on some of these to get a better understanding.

1} If you have a hitting coach whose hitting coaching type is NEUTRAL, as opposed to Power Hitters, Contact Hitters, does that mean, you don't get a boost for a certain type of hitter, but you also dont get a penalty either? Or does that mean NEUTRAL type hitters?

I hope that makes sense. I'm asking because in an effort to better understand development, i have been tweaking and trying different tactics to get different results, One thing i have tried is making all my coaches neutral so I get a steady no bonus, no penalty type of approach. For the record, none of these efforts have worked, which is why im asking these questions.

2} I took all my coaches and altered their personality in an effort to get maximum results. I synchronized their positive relationship types with the players on each team accordingly. Then I took their negative relationship types and switched to "-" or nothing, in an attempt to get rid of any negative effects. Would this be the correct thing to do in seeking maximum results?

3} In a player's personality ratings, there are the three attributes of handle success, handle failure, etc. Is 200 the BEST possible or the WORST possible? Similar to controversy, which i believe you want as low as possible.

4} If you set player aging to .900 {default is 1.000}, does that mean the player will age slower? Or is it the other way around?

5} I made all catchers in the organization have high catching ability to help my pitchers out, Ive promoted/demoted players based on their on field production, I have made sure to have at least one or two "captain" personality types on the team, at every level. I make sure all my pitching coaches have the hitting/pitching slider all the way to pitching, Same thing with the hitting coaches, etc. I have all my minor league coaches on HIGHLY FAVOR TOOLS. I also have their focus sliders set all the way on DEVELOPMENT, SCOUTING RECCOMENDATION, DRAFT and INTERNTIONAL. I make sure all players have high morale and there are no unhappy players. I keep the roster size to one in which all players can get an opportunity to play.

I could keep going as I'm sure there are many more things that I do, but my point is that I have been playing OOTP for years and have a pretty good understanding of the game. I also understand that some players flame out and nothing is guaranteed and there is probably no way to do so. However, it seems like this year in particular I jsut absolutely cannot get my players to develop. Im in my 3rd 6+ year franchise game. In this game, i have edited, manipulated and set up everything I know of in order to get better development results. Maxed development budgets and everything I listed above, i am still not getting results. I figured I would get some fresh takes and ideas in combination with the clarification of the questions above to see if there is something I'm missing or something I can try. I appreciate any feedback and thanks so much for reading this, I really appreciate it

I would post this in the OOTP 24 general discussions. It will get far more views and replies there.

Will attempt to answer these - but first please don't yell. Typing in all Caps is considered yelling. Thank you.

1. A neutral coach just means he's not going to excel in any area, not really good or bad at any particular attribute, just neutral or average if you will.

2. From reading this question, I'm assuming you went and edited all your coaches to have no conflicts with any players. I suppose that's all well and good but I'm not sure how the game will handle it. The game is designed to mimic real life, and in real life there just aren't any perfect relationships. You won't find a team or coach in any sport who gets along great with every single player. People have differences, that's human nature. So I'm not sure if the game is programmed to handle all perfect relationships.

Basically I don't have an answer because I've never tried it.

3. Personality attributes are ranged 1-200 - worst to best.

4. .900 will slow aging slightly.

5. Coaches don't "favour tools or ability", that's for Scouts. You want Coaches in the minors who are good at teaching their particular skill. So a pitching coach should be good at teaching pitching. Hitting coach good at teaching hitting. Also consider good at handling development and influence mechanics for both.

For your minor league managers, they should also be good with Development, Mechanics, handles aging, and teaching in general. The better the attribute, the better they should help development.

I would recommend watching these tutorial videos by pfholden, they are excellent. He does a very good one on coaches/managers and how/what their attributes affect. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...99pVXGBT1q-DZY

Lastly, I'm not sure what you'll accomplish by editing everything to be "perfect or ideal", but I don't think you'll get the desired result simply because that's not how the game should work. If so, everybody would be winning every game.

I strongly recommend watching the referenced videos, you'll have a much better understanding of how everything interacts.

Cheers

thanks. definitely not yelling, i appreciate the heads up with the caps...

The whole purpose of this was to get a better understanding of how development works, because of my lack of success with it. So to make sure when I'm in a normal game I know what to strive for.

thanks for taking the time to respond.

There is an "Out of the Park Developments - General Discussions" (which is where you first posted and above) and the "Out of the Park Baseball 24 - General Discussions" (where is where you are and ought to have been). Glad they moved you as this subforum gets the most views and it got you the help you needed.
