5000 Baseball Stars in Their Peak Quickstart

Hello all!
An upgraded version of something i released a couple years ago on ootp 22. I have put about 350 hours of work into this quickstart and it has been amazing. Since last posting ive added 1800 players and re-did all existing players running and stealing ratings and also all pitchers babip ratings as this is new.

What's included?
5000 all-time greats in the uniform of the team they are most known for with hand built ratings from their best 7 year stretch of playing. Among them are 20ish cuban greats and 250ish negro league era stars MLB players from the 1870s (but also pre mlb Jim Creighton) all the way to this past season's new stars like Elly De La Cruz and Gunnar Henderson.

What's it for?
It is set up to run twelve best of 9 series in tournaments within the game. Pick your players, play out the series. If you ever played Cadaco all-star baseball as a kid (the one with the spinners) that is the inspiration for this game. Just two teams of players I love facing off.

The teams that come with the game are all incomplete and strictly there so that players appear in that team's era specific jersey when playing in the tournaments. But do whatever you want with it.

What else can it do?
You can release all the players, delete the teams and create leagues for the players. delete all the teams except the 70s and 80s teams and create a 70s and 80s players only league. Use it to create one league with 100 teams. Do whatever you like.

How were the players made?
Their stats from their best 7 year run were compared to that 7 years majors stats and normalized against a more modern run environment so nobody was built with just their straight stats. No one will ever agree on all the ratings and certainly the game itself considers certain things more important than others for overall ratings.

I'm curious how the ratings/normalization was done as it looks really good for the most part as I scroll through.

World.dat file is missing on mine. This looks really cool but it will not load without the world.dat file

It takes a long time to zip the entire file, make sure you aren't downloading it prematurely.

There are a bunch of uniforms in there. It would probably be good to have a version without them and allow them to be downloaded separately.

So, I downloaded this quick start again and I am receiving the message that to run it, I need to install it from servers from Add-Ons Central. Too bad it won't work in the Steam version. I am either doing something terribly wrong or this just won't work in the Steam version. Every other quickstart does work. This looks really fun though and I hope there will be a workaround.

I don't think it has anything to do with the Steam version. You need to make sure you have all of the files...it is a very large zip and I also somehow only got part of the data the first time I downloaded (and so saw the same error), but once I got all of the .dat files it worked.

I made a base line of every season from 1950 to 2021 for what averages were for every stat and averaged that out.

for each player the stats were based off of their 7 year peak, so the major league totals of the 7 years peak were normalized against the base line i made. and then those were used to normalize the player's stats of that peak. Then those stats were further translated looking at road and home splits against lefty and righty.

it was a bit convoluted. there's no perfect way to do this obviously as we never would know how 150 years of players would perform against each other but i was pretty happy with those results and would adjust as i thought needed for some players.

i think you can manually just download that file if you missed it. the .dat files are directly in the link provided.

move the entire folder of everything into your quickstarts folder then.

Thank you for your response Rain King. The complete did download but perhaps I am incorrectly mixing the two folders?

Unzipped files into Quickstarts folder, game stated I had to install it from Add-Ons, assumed that meant there was no World.dat file. I downloaded that individually and moved it into the QS folder for the game (OOTP Goat 5.0), now I get an error message

OOTP cannot load this database because it has been created with an earlier version of OOTP. Please use the button 'Import OOTP 22' to import the database.

No problem.

Click on Import OOTP 22 Game, Error - OOTP cannot import this saved game because it was saved with OOTP 24. This version of OOTP can only import saved games with version #22.

What I am doing wrong?!?!?

Trying to run this in OOTP23, thanks!

I REALLY want to try this but I cannot get it to work in OOTP 24, getting a message that it needs Add-Ons Central.

It would probably be ideal to have the uniforms and .lg files available separately.

I'm 90% sure most of the issues anyone is having getting this set up is because of the very large download due to the uniforms and the download only providing some of the files due to that.

For anyone having trouble, I would also recommend trying to download the .dat files individually and placing them into your folder. Those are essential.
