In my Metro Leagues it's LF Frenchy Armstrong of the Atlanta Grays. He's currently 33 years old and hales from Fullerton, California. Here are 'Stretch's' career stats after 10 seasons of excellence...
Total AB : 5460 Total AVG : .328 Total Hits: 1790 Total HR : 429 Total RBI : 1157 Total Runs: 1223 Total SB : 226 Armstrong carried his club to two consecutive world titles in the early seventies. In the '72 series against Detroit he was named MVP. He hit the title clinching home run in game five. He won the Triple Star in '72 (.383 avg., 61 homers 160 RBI.) So far, he's the only player, besides Whammer Olson to accomplish this feat. He also broke and held the Metros home run record (61) in '72, until it was broken two years later by Whammer Olson. He still holds the HR record in his league, though. Early in his career he had the uncanny ability to raise his level of play in late season play. Thus his affectionate nick name, 'Stretch.' This pretty much endeared him to me and I've watched his career ever since. He won the MVP a season ago. But, he plays in a park (Henry Aaron Park) where it's tough to hit home runs consistently. Unfortunately, he's fallen out of the home run chase for several years now, where he was a fixture early in his career. He's also playing for an Atlanta Grays club with very little pitching in a league dominated by wonderful pitchers. Still 'Stretch' holds his own and is the darling of Atlanta. I watch many of the Grays games simply because he's playing in them. Win or lose, he's my favorite Metro Leagues star. |

He was created during the fill minors with fictional players. I do not have the exact statistics but he will probably end up bast leadoff hitter of all time. I think the run scored record will be his. Stolen base and Pete rose career hits might fall...but I notice lots of players decline around 38 years old. He is only 29 years old. Approxamite stats .350 career hitter. High .397 record in my league Around 1700 hits in only 8 seasons played. High 240+ league record Stolen at least 80 bases every year. High 103 league record. Career OBP .450+. Was .500+ in the year he hit .397 Has some pop in his bat 15-25 each year. He is a run scoring machine! I think lowest was 120 runs. His 38 game hitting streak is longest in league tied with Roberto Alomar He is just fun to have as a lead off hitter. It doesn't hurt having Alex Rodriguez, Frank Thomas and Jason Giambi hitting behind him either. [ 04-30-2002, 06:10 AM: Message edited by: Iwentsouth ] |

This guy is one of my favorite stories:
Casey Cypert was not expected to be much more then a part time player if he even ever made it to the bigs. But the 39th rd. pick in the ABA's very first draft choice had other thoughts. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 1973 with (.289 35 104). The 37 year old veteran is currently in his 14th season and showing no signs of slowing down. He's off to a torrid pace in 1986 batting (.436 13 36) through 26 games. Here are some of this 9-time all-star's career numbers: BA: .307 HITS: 2526 HR: 500 RBI: 1549 RUNS: 1377

My favorite fictional player is Hank Smith. I drafted him as a MR in the initial draft and converted him to a starter during Spring Training. He went 10 consecutive seasons with an era under 2.00 and 13 out of 15 in an modern era league. He went 32-2 with a 2.03 era in 1998. In his 20th season, he currently is 420-104 with 12 saves. Along with 74 CG and 54 SHO, he sports a 1.89 era. In addition to making 15 all-star games, he won 15 CONSECUTIVE Big Train awards from 1993-2007. All this with a E or D stamina. Once he retires, he will have the pitching award named after him.

Howdy Specs,
Henry Aaron Park in my fictional league has the lowest HR ballpark factor. HR = 65 HR of RHB = 65 HR of LHB = 65 These factors were higher in the first few years of 'Stretche's' career. But then lowered to what they are currently. Henry Aaron Park was basically turned into a pitchers park, thus it's more difficult for Armstrong to crank one out of his home park. He still manages about 40 per season, but hits more on the road than at home. |

Oh you must be thinking about the real Henry Aaron Field. My Henry Aaron Park is a fictional ballpark in my fictional Metro Leagues. You can visit the fictional park at my sight. Click on 'Ballpark Tours.'

No, I'm wondering why you would name a pitcher's park after the greatest home run hitter ever to play the game.

Ah, now I see. Well, Henry Aaron was much more than a great home run hitter. But, to answer your question, actually the park is a modified version of old Griffith Stadium that was located in D.C. So, I used the authentic features and distances that were used in that great old park. It was a pitchers park. However, I set it's fictional counterpart in Atlanta. Since, I've always felt that Turner Field should have been named Henry Aaron Park I named a fictional ballpark after him as sort of a personal thing. Although, the fictional folks in my fictional baseball world have never heard of the great Henry Aaron it's a wonderful name for a ballpark.

Yogi Seitzer, CF, Denver: http://www.gmpexpress.net/~jwilt/OOTP4/424.htm Billy Konstantanople, 3B, Denver: http://www.gmpexpress.net/~jwilt/OOTP4/421.htm Note: 35 triples in '96 Killer Smith, RF, Las Vegas: http://www.gmpexpress.net/~jwilt/OOTP4/848.htm Voltaire Powell, SP, Winnipeg: http://www.gmpexpress.net/~jwilt/OOTP4/1553.htm Note: weird stat error, so he has two '99 seasons in his career numbers. Dieter Ullbrecht, RF, Wichita: http://www.gmpexpress.net/~jwilt/OOTP4/1463.htm Bud Boyd, CF, Louisville: http://www.gmpexpress.net/~jwilt/OOTP4/764.htm

Well, for those of you who are playing with OOTP4's initial rosters, you must all be familiar with the Man, the Myth, the Legend: Lonnie Jones. This guy has gone four seasons so far without an injury, and a career era under 2!!! (1.65era), he is also 23-4, 21-6, 19-2, 20-5. Any other experiences with Lonnie?
