Does handedness matter in FHM?

Conventional wisdom holds that you want players on their strong side as much as possible and if you can, to always pair leftys and rightys on a defensive line. They can see the ice better, are on their forehand for shots without turning their body, etc.

Does that play a role in FHM at all, either as a bonus or penalty in game?

Just curious if that is something to consider as I build a team especially since rightys are in high demand.

it doesn't really seem so, but one thing to look out for. if you let the AI control your lines, you'll want to update the player's LD or RD spot. if you want them to play LD, set the value to 20. if the player's secondary spot is RD then set that value to lower than 20, ideally 15 (average). 10 isn't great while 0 is aweful.
The highest value of the lineup spots is always rounded up to 20 if all are 19 or less. When the roster is setup, if you have AI control that as well, if there are less than 3 left dmen with a value of 20, then the AI will (try to) bring up a player from the minors. if you have extra RD with with LD values of less than 20, the AI won't play them at LD

hope that makes sense

Yes, handedness matters, but the 2D and classic engines handle it differently: e.g., among other things, classic has some routines that make it easier for defencemen at the point to control the puck if their stick is on the board side as they're facing the net; 2D doesn't do that, but has a more precise shot-location system that tends to place shots opposite the shooter's handedness a little more often (LH shooter vs. LH goalie will get a slightly higher percentage of shots to the glove side than RH shooter vs. LH goalie.)

There are also some data differences, a player whose primary position is the wing/point opposite their main hand will usually start with a higher rating on their "correct side", e.g. a right-shooting RW will typically begin rated 20 at RW and 12 at LW, a left-shooting one will be 20/14.

Anything specific to the Power Play ? as often times shooters are on their opposite side for one-timers. Is it a mechanic in 2D ? Or would it be preferable to slot guys on their matching side on the PP ?
