Help setting up a game

I posted this question earlier but I was unable to complete the suggestion I was given. I just bought OOTP 24 and have been playing around on it for a week or so. I used to be a big fan of Earl Weaver Baseball and the Tony Larussa Baseball PC games when I was in college.

Does OOTP have an option like those games where you can create a league/game and draft teams from the entire history of baseball?

One team might have a line-up of:

Henderson
Brett
Foxx
Griffey, jr.
Campanella
Wagner
Sandberg
Suzuki
Mordecai Brown

vs.

Shoeless Joe
Lajoie
Gehrig
Schmidt
Mantle
Manny Ramirez
Bresnahan
Ozzie Smith
Greg Maddux

That was one of my favorite features of those previous games, and I was hoping OOTP had that.

If it does, can someone explain the how to? How would I set up a draft of only about 1000 historical players that I could place in a fictional league setting? The players would come from all eras. Can I do something to select only a certain set of players?

If so, can someone please give me some guidance on how to do this? I would much appreciate it.

Yes, you can. Go to:

the name of the league (usually "major league baseball")
-->
Reports & Info
--->
Free Agents
--->
Actions
--->
Import Historical players
-->
choose a database
--->
this gets you to the Historical Players Import Options menu.

You then can import multiple players from a list in a text file by clicking Click Here To Select File. You pick one of the text files shown, and then that sends you back to the Historical Players Import Options menu, or you can skip using the text file and import historic players one by one using the Historical Players Import Options menu.

The names must be formatted as
Baseball Reference ID, comma, season year, comma (and then OOTP three-letter team ID, comma- if you want to import him to a specific team instead of being a free agent). Use the team you want him to play for in OOTP, not necessarily his real team. For example,

Ruthba01,1919,
Ruthba01,1920,CLE,
Morgajo02,1975,

Attached is a text file listing some players I used in OOTP23.
Attached Files
File Type: txt example- players ive used in ootp23.txt (3.2 KB, 17 views)

You could start a fictional league and set the draft to random historical players.
If you want only a select set of players you can import them yourself.

"Commissioners have the ability to import individual historical players from the Free Agents, Draft Pool, and Show All Players pages. To import historical players, click on the Import Historical Player action button at the bottom of the page. Choose the database you wish to use. (By default, use the file historical_database.odb found in the datastats directory in your User Data location.) Then, you then go through a process very similar to that used to import an entire historical league, as described in Adding Historical Leagues.

The main difference between thisscreenand importing an entire historical league is that you must know the player's unique ID, as used in the historical database. Enter this value in the first field, and then select the other options, which are described in detail in Adding Historical Leagues.

Note: One 'trick' to finding the player's ID is to visit BaseballReference.com. Look up the player you wish to import, and then check the URL string. The player's unique ID is the portion of the file name before .shtml.

Once you are done, click Import Player to bring the player into your game. He will appear on the Free Agent screen immediately."

You use the Baseball Reference ID for the player and then pick a year you want to import them from

More help needed

I've imported 1200 historical players into my custom fictional league where I'm the manager. They show up in my list of all players. I deleted all the fake free agents. I can't get the historical players to post anywhere so I can draft them.

Can someone please help?

Is the "Schedule fantasy draft" function available to you? It's under league settings, then functions, under the popular functions heading.
