Fictional League, but use Historical real players from any era at any time
Ive pretty much posted what im hoping to do, but cannot work out how in game.
So i want to setup a pure fictional league, no reference to MLB at all. But the player pool that i want for the league, are all real players in the database from any year... so my opening season will be a 'draft' so i want the pool of players to be random MLB players from any era. Then year on year, every draft is the same thing.. random players, any era. So my league is essentially just growing with real MLB players, but debuting whenever and forging a new identity in a fictional world. Is this easy to do in game without having to learn mods? Thanks, |

I can tell you one way to do it, but it will start with a reference to MLB.
Create the year you want to start using the historical creation wizard. Make sure you pick a season(year) in which the MLB had at least as many teams as you want to start with for your fictional setup. For example, if you start in 1982, you will be able to have 26 or fewer teams in your fictional league. Start in 2015 and you can have 30 or fewer. When creating your historical season, select the option for use players from all eras instead of real rosters. You can use recalc or the OOTP development engine, that's totally up to you. If you go 100% development engine, I would suggest basing fielding ratings on entire career. Same goes for base pitcher stamina. Most important choice to make during the whole wizard process is to make sure you leave the box for historical expansion unchecked. You have to do this if you want your league to be fictional. Create your league. Once league is created, you can edit to your hearts content. You can delete teams, divisions, subleagues etc. You can add divisions. You can rename, relocate and give teams fictional nicknames. Just make sure before you start your season that you import a schedule that matches your fictional setup. Since your league was created using the historical wizard, OOTP will stock the draft with enough players for a 44 round draft based on the number of teams major league baseball used the year you decide to start. For example, if you start in 1970, the draft will feature enough players for a 44 round draft using 24 teams. So, if you were to delete 4 teams your draft would have enough players for a 52 round draft with 8 players left over. You can go to the rules section and decide how many players/rounds you want your future drafts to contain. Since you started using the historical wizard, I recommend you keep the amateur draft in the default December. This is one way to do this. I think others may be able to tell you other ways |

That's a nice breakdown David. I planned on doing something similar in my next league but wasn't sure where to start without butchering my way through it a few times.
