Please discuss these two batter profiles
I'm trying to better understand hitting profiles and the outcomes that we should expect with different ones
Would you please look at these two batters and give me your thoughts. Is one "better" than the other, or are they just different? Consider them as LF with the same defense rating. Player A CON 65 GAP 60 HR 25 EYE 60 Avoid K 80 Speed 70 Stealing 50 baserunning 50 Player B CON 70 GAP 65 HR 50 EYE 40 Avoid K 75 Speed 75 Stealing 70 Baserunning 70 Thank you. How I would approach it:
Throw out Gap and Avoid Ks. That leaves us with 65/25/60 vs 70/50/40. The slight CON and massive POW gap leaves me with the second one being quite a bit better of a hitter. Now if we consider running: First one is an unmitigated disaster on the bases with high speed but low stealing; second one has a bit too much speed but also much better stealing/baserunning so should still be quite productive on the bases. If they're average defensive LFs, then I'd say the second one is a solid complimentary role player on a good team, and the first one might be passable as a 4th/5th OF type, but the combination of no power and being a massive liability on the bases is not good for a player with no real defensive value. |

Related question:
If a player has a high contact, but a very low power, is it safe to assume, that player must have a very high hidden BABIP? So if we are looking for a high OBP guy, and not too concerned about homeruns, high contact/low power might indicate a player will get on base a lot? also indicate that this players performance will be impacted more by the opposing defense? Or am i misunderstanding things and overthinking this? |

Both have Speed > Stealing which is a red flag, but while for the first player its a massive liability, the second one is only a touch higher so should be manageable (and largely counterbalanced by the otherwise high Stealing/Baserunning).

edit to add, i just searched and found this, thanks for pointing it out. "The speed rating is used to determine how often a player / the AI decides to steal a base. Speed + pitcher hold rating is then used to determine how good a jump the player gets. If he gets a good jump and goes, the catcher arm, pitcher hold rating, the type of pitch and player stealing rating are the factors which determine if the player is safe."
