What are your thoughts on OOTP24?
It's hard to believe that it's been almost 6 months since OOTP24 was released and the regular season in Major League Baseball is winding down. What are your thoughts on OOTP24? Did the game surpass your expectations, meet them, or did it fail to do either or both?

I started with V21. I like the improvements they make every year. It is worth every penny and I buy it as soon as it is available.
One of the best factors are the fine people on these forums. |

I don’t buy any of the new versions. I don’t like the direction they’ve taken the game. I found the version I play with is the best. That being said, I’m sure 24 is good for the folks who do like it.

I have only been on 24 for about a month.
Positives: Name & # Cleaner look - awards not disappearing Trading seems harder Game play is as close to MLB The Show as we've seen so far Negatives: Screen doesn't fit despite my 1920 x 1200 resolution - Sucks for making screenshots Runs a tad slower then 23, although 23 was on steam, 24 is fastspring Still no Negro league players in Random debut.

The year-to-year enhancements are incremental; not fundamental. Which is the way it should work, as the game is solid As I play more, I find more. There’s plenty new to justify the purchase. The underlying engine seems stable. Flaws arise but generally get fixed. Some projects like Negro League players will take more time. My sims transfer flawlessly. It’s still a kick to play OOTP.

1) It's great, the best OOTPB yet. Perhaps it appears so to me because I skipped 22 and 23. My biggest appreciation is the Classic Skin but of course the animations are so much better, including animated crowds; owner goals are more realistic; uniforms are beautiful (especially in conjunction with eriq's Uniform Maker); the improved trading system, should one accept the challenge, is suitably tough; and the AI does seem smarter to me — don't forget, I'm comparing it to version 21.
2) It's also it. That is, I am off the gravy train after this. I said this for OOTPB 21 but I was lured back for 24. However, something is different this time. Actually, several things are different: a) Having the feeling that this is indeed it, I actually got into the game much more than ever before. Every nook and cranny, with much layouts, filters, options, and other customizations that I never got into before. This is not a knock on the game or the developers! I do not regret a single dollar that I have paid for the overall enjoyment of OOTPB. It's just that I want to get off the merry-go-round now and be finally happy with my baseball simulation game. Finally capable and interested in playing a league for 100 years or more! If possible, that is, but I understand that with good file housekeeping and the 64-bit version, plus a relatively simple setup (36-team MLB simile with minors but no feeders or internationals), I may just make it. Look, I can say all this in a salutatory address because this is just me. I am sure the vast majority of OOTPB's loyal customer base will continue to stay on board, and that is good. One piece of advice for them however: Keep on top of the developers. Don't allow them to submerge the baseball simulation in some sort of amalgamation with Perfect Team and microtransations. On the other hand, don't let them turn it into another MLB The Show at the expense of baseball verisimilitude. My thanks to Markus, Andreas, Matt, Rich and everybody else on the OOTPD team for so many years of enjoyment and for this, OOTPB 24, my jewel, my end of the line. Salute and Salud!

Oh, I'll still be around. In Talk Sports, primarily, and darn me for a fool, I have subscribed to the Off Topic forum again. (I made the mistake of following an exiled thread and happened to catch some interesting thread titles therein.) But again, my choice is unique to me and no reflection on OOTPB as it stands now. I am sure they and you will do quite well without me.

Now that I have a computer that is less than a decade old, the graphics are pretty good!
I've noticed incremental improvement in graphics over the years, and this year's version is better than ever. It's not up to par with arcade style console games, but that's not why we play OOTP. Still, I find managing (or just watching) games more entertaining than ever. I can't wait to see where the next version improves even more on the graphics! One pet peeve: It seems that for home runs over a certain distance do not report estimated distance - the longest one I've seen reported is 484 ft. It would be nice to track the longest homers, instead of "good luck finding something to measure that one!" I'm a Phillies fan and I need to know how far the Schwarbombs fly! |

I've been around since the first Mac version. OOTP and the wonderful community of users has been a huge positive force in my life.
The game is better than it's ever been. There are more and more wonderful details added all the time: 1. I was not a fan of the 3d concept when it first came. It's improved every single year. Animation gets better and better. I used to collect large 2d pics and it was great. I don't recall the last time I played the game in 2d. Now I make skyboxes for 3d. 2. User contributed stadiums/logos/uniforms/sounds are great! A huge thanks to all of you who invest the time to make them! 3. The community is still strong, although I miss the intimacy of the smaller user base. So many voices is great for the game, but you lose some of the closeness of the past. Sort of like baseball...expansion made it harder to track everything and everyone. 4. The uniform improvements...the under-the-hood stuff few of us know about or care to know about that make the game smoother...the AI improvements...Perfect Team—which you should be grateful for even if you don't play because some of the improvements we've seen are not cheap and PT pays the freight for them... 5. Let's not forget the best part...you can still directly interact with the Development Team on the forums. Show me an Apple/Microsoft/Google/EA/K****i (he who shall not be named)/Corel/lots-of-others product where you can do that daily. Let's also remember...it's hard to make huge improvements all the time when you look at the sheer scope of detail there already is. The game is still fresh every spring, and I'm a happy camper. I've made friends in real life from this place. Like all things...the value of the game isn't just what's running in your laptop...it's the people. There are a lot of good people here, and I'm grateful for that most of all.

Well said Mr. Cobb. I've been playing since v6.5 I think. The game keeps getting better. It was unfortunate that the devs had to remove international content but I understand why. I love that we can add our own content through modding. I like making my own uniforms and logos using a graphics program. I greatly appreciate the stadium makers since 3D editing makes my brain hurt. I also love the tools eriqjaffe and justafan have made.

Anyway, I wanted to highlight this point. It is RARE (in my experience, at least) that developers are this connected to their community. To their benefit as well as ours! I have been other places where the devs disappear for long periods of time, come back momentarily and act as if they've never been gone and what's your problem, and then disappear again. On the other hand, OOTPD has always, always been a pleasure in this regard. One badge of noobidity around here is complaining about not getting an answer within a few hours. Elsewhere, try a year later, if you're lucky! Sure, I have asked a question or two or made a comment that was not responded to, but for the important stuff (there's significance in numbers), they are here for us. I have to think that a large measure of their success is due to this alone.
