Can I do a fictional league with real players?

Title says it all...

I'd like to do a fictional, 24 team league but start it with a fantasy draft of real players. I've played with it for a while and can't seem to figure it out -- is this possible?

Thanks,
Plinko

One way is to create a real league, then after you release all players for the fantasy draft, go into the league editor and rename the teams to fictional names.

You could start with any real season you wish, so for example you want 24 teams pick a season between 69 - 92.

Of course you pick any season and add/delete teams as desired.

Once you have the teams set the way you wish, hold your fantasy draft.

Just to add to this, if you use the historical wizard to create a real league and you change the teams to fictional teams, you want to make sure you uncheck the box for historical expansion. This is really important. If you leave that box checked all the changes you made will revert back to the historical makeup the minute you get to the off season. For example if you change the Detroit Tigers to the Detroit Motors, they will revert back to the Detroit Tigers if the historical expansion is checked.

Also, keep in mind that you can create a historical season with more than 24 teams and delete teams to get down to your desired 24 teams. Doing this wil give you added player depth.

Or you can create a fictional 24 team league using assorted different teams from baseball history. Import some selected real players, rename the teams, do a draft, and viola.

I've never did that yet. What happens when you get to the second season? Is there a way for you can have the game import historical players, or do you have to manually select all the players for the draft class?

I'm pretty sure you can select "import real rookies" (someone correct me if I have the wording wrong). I've always used the various historical teams model to start my universe and let the game create draft classes from there. My reasoning is I don't want to know how good or bad a guy will be when he's drafted. Knowing, say Mike Trout, will be really good when he's drafted kinda takes away the suspense of player development for me.

I like creating a league that starts in say 1900 or 1910. Use historical rookies and see how the league plays out. Using fictional cities and fictional team names its interesting to see how Ted Williams would play. For some reason Mel Ott always winds up a stud and Babe Ruth stays a pitcher and flames out quickly. When I see Ruth appear in the draft pool I trash his pitching ratings so he is drafted as a hitter. Usually winds up at 1B and never has a long career.
