What exactly is the influence of having coaches with specific focuses?
Typically I've hired my coaching staff to have neutral preferences so that I'm able to draft the best players available without worry. Plus that way I don't have to babysit the minor leagues more than I already do.
Sometimes I'll hire coaches with a focus to essentially follow a "once a decade prospect" through the minor league system until his debut, but even then I often don't do that. I've been thinking that my current save (year 2070) has produced crazy amounts of 10 year MLB Veterans, but certainly less 'superstars' or 'perennial All-Star' players than some of my previous saves. And this had me wondering if it had anything to do with hiring primarily neutral coaches. Few questions... - Is there a 'meta' or 'generally accepted best way' to setting up your minor league staff with regards to focus? - Say that I prefer groundball pitchers, would it make sense to hire Managers with a focus on groundballers to compliment my neutral pitching coaches? - Hard to put into words, but is there a percentage increase of a Power Pitching prospect becoming a bust when paired with a pitching coach focused on Finesse or Groundball pitchers? - Last question... Do hitting coaches and 1B/3B coaches have any influence on pitchers? This also has me curious with regards to if I should be worrying about my hitting/base coaches coaches relationships with pitchers... Thanks all -- My gut tells me that it's better to stay neutral so you can stay drafting best player available, especially if you aren't going to babysit your minor league system to the highest degree each year, but if it's a big difference I'd definitely change my habits

From what I’ve read on here and on Reddit, their influences are more impactful if you acquire and develop players under one organizational philosophy.
For example, in a Rockies save, you might focus on getting high contact bats and ground ball arms, thus all your hitting/pitching coaches will be contact/ground ball. It should help maximize development and TCR. So the “answer” is what is right for your team and its ballpark factors |
