In the 16 team quick irons I've taken a liking to Lou Gehrig even though I platoon him. In rounds that I win and face mostly righties he takes mvp about a third of the time. Jimmy Ryan is a great guy to have in your lineup, horrid as a pitcher though, have him set as mop-up and only seen him pitch one time in all the tourneys I've joined LOL

Someone else suggested I get Jimmy Ryan. So if he is set as mop-up, that means he pitches when?

Ryan should never pitch. Set his position to center field and use him there or at DH. He's a great all-around offensive player. You COULD set him as mop-up pitcher, but he won't be used much if at all.

Change his position to CF and make sure two-way player is not checked.

On the player page, under the "actions" dropdown
and the other box is on the player strategy page right-hand side

Is it ok to have this SS as your only backup catcher on your roster? Or a better option?

In iron you can win with literally anything. I started a new team a few weeks ago and I sent a garbage roster to the iron cap daily on a scouting mission to see what the "good" teams were using.

Garbage team means using the 20 iron cards I got in the starter packs and the 20 or so live iron cards that I bought for 6 points each. The only card I bought that was actually good was E. Cabrera. So, I took 2nd place for two historical packs.

However, Mathis is generally acknowledged as #1 catcher by far.
Streamer I Rock This ranked the rest of the iron catchers on his stream today. I don't remember what he said, but the ones I normally use were far down that list: Freehan, Downing.

I must have horrible luck or clearly doing something wrong, hence why I am questioning much. I am rarely finishing high enough to win any packs. I will look into that catcher. I think I do see most of the teams that beat me use Downing at catcher. Jimmy Ryan of course seems to be a consistent on rosters.

I see a couple teams using him, but I question the power as well. I am guessing power is the key in these games.

Absolutely. Almost none of these guys are good contact hitters, so make the most of it when they do make contact. Sigh. I miss last year's Bill Salkeld card. Power. Eye. Avoid K.

What happened to the card? I wasn't aware they go away.

New cards each year/version. You can still play PT23 (where this card came from) until next March, but you'd have to purchase OOTP 23 to do so. Each version of PT lasts 24 months, but they quit releasing cards and missions after 12 months and move on to current year's version.

Is buying them or randomly finding them in a pack the only 2 ways to get either of these guys?
